NFL cuts around the league

#1

Per rotoworld:

Quote:Bucs waive OLB Khaseem Greene

Khaseem Greene | FA

(September 4, 2015 9:51 AM EDT)

Bucs waived OLB Khaseem Greene.

Even Greene's 98-yard pick-six in the preseason finale wasn't enough to save his job. The former fourth-round pick of the Bears could get claimed off waivers.

Dolphins cut DT Anthony Johnson

Anthony Johnson | FA

(September 4, 2015 9:55 AM EDT)

Dolphins waived DT Anthony Johnson, OG Michael Liedtke, and OT Donald Hawkins.

Johnson is the most notable name. The second-year UDFA out of LSU made the Dolphins and played 84 snaps last season, but was the odd man out this year following the additions of Ndamukong Suh and C.J. Mosley.

Bills waive WR Andre Davis

Andre Davis | FA

(September 4, 2015 10:40 AM EDT)

Bills waived WR Andre Davis.

Davis was signed as a priority UDFA out of South Florida and recently drew praise from coach Rex Ryan as a player who stood out at camp. He caught nine passes for 68 yards this preseason and is likely headed to the practice squad.

Bucs release LB Larry Dean

Larry Dean | FA

(September 4, 2015 10:52 AM EDT)

Bucs released LB Larry Dean.

Dean was signed as a free agent in April after appearing in 61 games for the Vikings the previous four seasons. He was expected to help out on special teams.

49ers cut cord on veteran DT Darnell Dockett

Darnell Dockett | FA

(September 4, 2015 11:01 AM EDT)

49ers released DT Darnell Dockett.

This is our first surprise cut of the weekend. Dockett was signed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract that included $2 million guaranteed in April. He was supposed to help replace retired DE Justin Smith. Dockett had been operating as a sub-package pass rusher in camp and preseason, but apparently wasn't showing much coming off his 2014 torn ACL. Dockett turned 34 earlier this year.

Bucs release DT Da'Quan Bowers

Da'Quan Bowers | FA

(September 4, 2015 11:10 AM EDT)

Bucs released DT Da'Quan Bowers.

The former second-round pick was re-signed by the Bucs back in July after drawing very little interest as a free agent. He was a colossal disappointment as a 4-3 pass-rushing end, but had appeared to find a home as a rotational defensive tackle. The Buccaneers apparently did not agree.

Eagles cut seventh-round DL Brian Mihalik

Brian Mihalik | FA

(September 4, 2015 11:13 AM EDT)

Eagles waived DL Brian Mihalik.

Mihalik was the 237th pick in May's draft. A SPARQ freak at 6'9/302, Mihalik couldn't crack the Eagles' deep defensive line. He's a practice-squad candidate.

Eagles dump veteran OG John Moffitt

John Moffitt | FA

(September 4, 2015 11:15 AM EDT)

Eagles released OG John Moffitt.

Moffitt "retired" in 2013 but was attempting a comeback after getting his life together. The former 75th overall pick was overmatched this preseason, receiving poor marks from PFF. He's still just 28 and may get another shot.

Bills cut punch-thrower IK Enemkpali

IK Enemkpali | FA

(September 4, 2015 12:11 PM EDT)

Bills waived DE/OLB IK Enemkpali.

After Enemkpali threw the punch heard 'round the world, busting Geno Smith's jaw, he was cut by the Jets and quickly scooped up by former coach Rex Ryan. Enemkpali showed well in preseason action, but the Bills are too deep.

49ers dump veteran LB Philip Wheeler

Philip Wheeler | FA

(September 4, 2015 12:28 PM EDT)

49ers released LB Philip Wheeler.

Oh, how far Wheeler has fallen since signing a five-year, $26 million deal with the Dolphins back in 2013. He's been cut by Miami and San Francisco this year.

Texans dump 2014 third-round NT Louis Nix

Louis Nix | FA

(September 4, 2015 12:58 PM EDT)

Texans waived NT Louis Nix.

Nix was the 83rd overall pick in last year's draft. He never played a down for the Texans after missing his entire rookie season with a wrist injury. The Texans then signed Vince Wilfork this offseason and drafted NT Christian Covington.

Texans dump WR Johnson and DT Deaderick

Damaris Johnson | FA

(September 4, 2015 1:07 PM EDT)

Texans waived WR Damaris Johnson and released DT Brandon Deaderick.

Johnson is a diminutive occasional deep threat and return specialist.

Cardinals release veteran DE Matt Shaughnessy

Matt Shaughnessy | FA

(September 4, 2015 1:10 PM EDT)

Cardinals released DE Matt Shaughnessy.

The Cardinals paid Shaughnessy a $500,000 bonus in March but are avoiding his $1.45 million base salary. Shaughnessy plays above-average run defense.

Eagles release S Chris Prosinski

Chris Prosinski | FA

(September 4, 2015 1:29 PM EDT)

Eagles released S Chris Prosinski.

Prosinski lost out to Ed Reynolds for the Eagles' No. 3 safety job.

Should we bring in Prosinski for a look?

Wow, Louis Nix. That Texans 2014 class is not looking so hot.

I actually thought Louis Nix was going to be drafted in the latter part of Round 1.   It looks like the various teams around the league collectively knew what they were doing regarding Nix.   He's definitely not a good fit for an attacking style of Defense but as a two gap run Defender,  he looked the part on paper.

His knee scared some teams off. A smart move.

Nix might be worth a look on the practice squad if he survives waivers. Wouldn't want to spend a 53-man spot on a 300+ lb. man with a gimpy knee, though.

That Prosinski guy is a real stud in the secondary. We should sign him ASAP.

Probably partially because he is from Jacksonville

Maybe Arians thinks there is something there but he has been pretty bad every time I have seen him play

One thing for sure,  a knee issue combined with massive size,  isn't a good combination.

After what the Cardinals experienced last season at QB,  I'm not surprised that Bruce Arians is looking for a much better # 3 and even a # 4 option at the position than they had last season.  Whether Matt Barkley is indeed a significant upgrade in that regard is another question.

Barkley is better than Logan Thomas probably will put Thomas on the PS and have them battle for 5 weeks and if barkley loses to Thomas then they will cut him and lose nothing
