Even though he has been out two years I think he fits the exception where he does have some time left this year

They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons; he is eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment, or have no prior accrued seasons in the NFL (an accrued season is six or more games on the active roster); or if he has accrued a year of NFL experience on a club's 53-man active roster. If the player was on the active list for fewer than 9 games during their "only Accrued Season(s)", he maintains his eligibility for the practice squad. Games in which a player is listed as the third-string quarterback (a designation that has been abolished as of 2011) do not count as being on the active list.^[2]

They can be paid considerably less than active squad players: The minimum salary from 2008 to 2010 was $5,200 per week (2008-2010)^[2] for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $420,000. In 2012 the minimum salary for a practice squad player was $5,700 per week, and the minimum rookie salary in 2012 was $390,000. Some practice squad players are paid considerably more, however. In 2006, the New England Patriots paid third-year player Billy Yates the full $425,000 he would have earned on the active roster.^[3]

In other words, NFL teams are free to "poach" other teams' practice squads without compensating the teams. I nominate this as the most ridiculous post ever.  I understand (somewhat) the hate for Henne by some on this board, but this get's the prize for the dumbest idea.

 

I don't dislike Henne, and think he gets a lot of undeserved hate. But I am not sure the post was that bad. I think if this were next year, and Morris continued to play like he had in the preseason, it could have been a real possibility. It is a question of youth and development over a known and frankly limited player in Henne. I wouldn't have made the move this season, but can see the reasoning.

:thanks: Thanks but I didn't post this comment because I "hate" Henne. I posted it because of the play of Morris as evidenced by Philly picking him up. We developed him on the PS and now another team will benefit. As per the play of BB5 while adding good health, Morris would serve just as good of an replacement...

 

Remember, w/o hating, if Henne was much better then he'd be the starter prior to BB5. Henne is like Tebow, he's inconsistent...

Except they both played the 2nd/3rd stringers against the Steelers, Giants, and Lions. Henne is automatically disqualified from the QB battle because of his ghost fumble on the goal-line. Nothing touched him. Morris can actually use his legs too, so he gets the trophy.

Sure is. They both suck, but i'd put my money on Morris finishing out a game over Henne. That's how much I don't trust that guy.

Doesn't really matter that he got cut, they're both bad. They wanted a veteran with knowledge, but Morris played better this pre-season in my opinion.

I honestly felt that we should've released Henne instead of Morris. He played Much Better this Pre-Season in my opinion. T..he staff also may have let him get the exposure so that he could be picked up...
