Quote:The problem is sometimes being years ahead isn't an advantage. Every group of guys has a period where they can be successful before they decline. It might be the case that the panthers just had some really bad luck last year and you're not actually in decline yet, but at best it looks like the team is just maintaining as much as it can and not improving. The Jaguars still need to prove it, but they looked much improved in the areas that matter in the preseason, and they've been so far down that improving isn't as much of a task for them.

Add to everything that the Panthers have been really bad on opening day under your current coaching staff and the panthers have never won a game in Jacksonville and I get the feeling the Jaguars are going to open some eyes come Sunday afternoon.

We're too young to be in decline, outside of a few guys we're still pretty young. Personnel has been the problem and Gettleman has had his hands tied by the ridiculous mess Marty Hurney left behind. We are just now starting to break out of that situation and he's done a great job of adding talent. Our biggest problem right now, IMO, is our OC. I can only imagine what we could do with someone who was imaginative and had some guts. Chud wad a good fit Cam's first two years, but his ego burned a lot of bridges. Cam's rookie year we had one of the worst defenses and ST units in the league.

Charles Johnson, Thomas Davis, Charles Tillman are all getting up there, but those are the only ones that really jump out at me. Johnson is the only one without a solid replacement already in place.

Panthers- 27

Jags -  20

Bortles - 21 of 30 for 235 yds  1 TD -  1 INT

Jags RB's combine for 105 yds

A Yeldon fumble, Bortles INT and bad run defense cripples the Jags chance of victory.

Just a gut feeling. Hoping I'm really wrong...

Sssshhhhh, best kept secret in the NFL ... I think he's going to have an Allen Hurns kind of first game & get the media attention he deserves but defense schemes for him will come too...

The Jaguars first team offense was deadly in preseason, but most teams come out vanilla simply grading players talents so hopefully it (Bortles) gets even better in regular season!

Even though this is against the spread, it's nice to see that some in the media actually do have a clue.

I think this will be a low scoring game with either team able to make that single play that wins the game.  Jaguars ran against weaker teams in the preseason, but struggled against a stout Lion's run D.  Jaguars will struggle to run against the Panthers.  Newton is missing his #1 WR.  In preseason Panthers look like they can run the ball.  The biggest question will be can Bortles throw against the Panthers or will the Panther front 7 keep him off balance?  Or maybe the biggest question is can the Panthers run through our defense easily?  Their rookie RB looked very good in the preseason.

17-16 Panthers win.

I think our D fence is going to surprise us.

As a die hard Jags fan I could never predict a team beating us! It's like a player not believing the team could win a game. You can call me a homer or anything you feel appropriate, but no fan wants a player that don't believe the team can win, and no player wants a fan that believes the team will lose.

Sad thing is, if we do beat the panthers, the next day headlines will be " panthers on a decline" or "Cam in a rut"! We will have to prove it over the course of the following weeks. Like one poster said, I believe we surprise some people this year.
You either die as a good poster, or live long enough to become the troll.

I would be surprised if it were that high scoring. I have a feeling we'll see a 17-13 type game.

Lol @ Jason La Canfora. He really does hate the Jags.
