3rd qb
|
Yes, the Jags could snipe them from other teams' practice squads at anytime without penalty or compensation to the other team, as the practice squad guys are basically free agents practicing with a team. The disadvantage of sniping a PS QB, if you need one at that time, is that they have no familiarity with your playbook or teammates. I think Dave will add a QB to the PS, so a QB one snap away from being the primary backup can become familiar with the offense (and provide a practice arm for drills when needed). I am guessing Tuel at some point.

Well the PS is full now. They signed this guy.

No 3rd qb, no problem.
Most teams carrying a third QB, don't have a QB.

Their names are Denard Robinson and Nick Marshall, and if disaster strikes during a game, one of those two (probably Robinson, as I doubt Marshall will be active on a weekly basis) will fill in. We have a double-secret fourth QB, too. His name is Jeff Tuel, and if Bortles or Henne are injured, he'll be called in from Todd Bouman's Farm for Wayward Quarterbacks to take over as the backup. We'd only use Robinson or Marshall to get us through a game where we lost both Bortles and Henne. Because once we lose just one of either Bortles or Henne for any significant time, we'll be acquiring someone as a backup/starter.

Quote:You cut Henne thereby not guaranteeing his $2 mil base salary for the year.So in order to get a third QB, you would cut a QB to make room on your roster for that third QB. Math isn't your strong point.

Are we really still discussing a practice squad spot?
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:Marshall is the 3rd qb http://www.jaguars.com/team/depth-chart.html There is no 3rd QB, only emergency (temporary, as in one game at most) options. If it even gets to that, we'll probably have someone signed before the emergency QB even finishes the game.

Quote:Marshall is the 3rd qbDRob would be the most likely choice if it came down to an emergency. He actually has experience with the offense. Quote:So in order to get a third QB, you would cut a QB to make room on your roster for that third QB. I don't expect the team to ever keep three QBs on their 53-man roster. If the team were to acquire a veteran qb, the idea would be to replace Henne plain and simple. Clearly reading comprehension is not your strong suit.

You must be the only one on here thinking they might keep three on the active roster. It's also about what they might do in an emergency situation on game day.

Regarding a potential replacement for Henne, we can scratch Cassel. I just noticed the Bills re-signed him. They were ecstatic that nobody picked him up so they could re-sign him dirt cheap. They also named Matt their #2 qb ahead of EJ.

In 2013 he only started 6 games for the Vikings, but his stats were pretty darn impressive in this those games.

Quote:In an emergency, the last thing they will do is cut their #2 QB. That makes your response even more outrageous I just don't like knowing that in the event our starting qb goes down, we're likely to lose out the remainder of the season, or how every many games Blake remains out. That said, Cassel was probably the last real shot at doing something about it. In a few days Sunday will be here and Henne's $2 mil base salary will be guaranteed. I see your reading comprehension struggles are coming back to bite. I never said to cut the #2 qb in the event of an emergency. How in the world did you get that from what I typed? Simply put, had they replaced Henne with Cassel, for instance, they would still have a #2 qb on their roster. Regardless, the discussion about an emergency sitation relates to what happens when the qb and his backup both go down, and we've discussed how they'll give scout team reps to DRob and/or Marshall just in case.
