Quote:I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if anyone has hotels they recommend in the area? My wife and I are trying to plan to come out for my birthday for my first ever game in Jacksonville. Its going to be insane but if we can get it planned away we have a shot. So looking for hotels close by the bank. Is that a good idea? enough to see in that area? Thanks.I stayed at the Crown Plaza which is nice but is still quite a walk from the stadium. They did have an issue with false fire alarms when I was there though.
I didn't notice a St. Augustine rundown. Hre are a few options if you venture down South our way
Schooners - Absolutley no ambience, more like a homier Shoneys. It's def a locals spot. If you're not there by 6, there will be a wait out the door. Great home style cooking on a budget. A dozen fried shrimp with 2 side will run you $9! Check out the fried chicken (30 mins wait on that) or the fried porkchops. They serve southern Zipper Cream Peas year ;long Gas Full Service Station - Mainly local ingredients, burgers are probably the best in town. They feature a stuffed burger of the day special A1A Taco Shop (Anastasia) Think of it as an authentic version of chipotle. Again, another locals spot where order line may be out the door. In love with the Carnitas Burrito with the Works!! Ice Plant - A truly unique experience that also makes it's own liquor with free tasting tours. Again, maily local ingredients. The atmosphere is like a 30's speakeasy. Only serve fresh ingredient cocktail with several options of ice (thus, the Ice Plant) Aunt Kate's - Almost identical to the setting of Cap's on the Water without the pretentious Dinner Menu. Low Country cooking...Shrimp & Grits, Soft Shell Crab BLT, local catch, etc. Little Margie's FA Cafe (Anastasia) - Cheap Breakfast favorite with the locals. Tough to get a seat for breakfast but lunch and dinner menu equally good. A Filipino flare with Fried Plantains a specialty. Skip the fries there, sub the plantains...you won't be sorry Ned's Southside Kitchen -- The owner of Gypsy Cab Co. opened this across from Walmart in St. Augustine. Amazing food that even offers a drive up window!!! What's awesome about Ned's is the drive up window features a chicken, fish, pork, seafood & shrimp special each day...at a drive through window!!! The Floridian - Mainly locally sourced ingredients. Florida fare at its finest. Fried Green Tomaotoes, Fried Pickles, Pork Belly, Low Country Boil, Local Beef Anyone need any suggestions for St. Aug, I'm your guy!
I seem to have missed this thread.
Bringing the much more significant other to town to meet the family and see a game next weekend. We will be doing the art museum and St. Augustine for sure. I think she'd like 5-points as well. What other suggestions? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I seem to have missed this thread. When I worked in Riverside/5-Points area, I remember the Mossfire Grill being really good. That was about 10 years ago though. Maybe a jax resident can enlighten us if it's still around... Their Meatloaf was untouchable. Wasn't a classic meatloaf. Had gravy and melted cheese. If you weren't there by noon (typically they ran the meatloaf for Thursday lunch), it was gone!

Still there. Blacksheep is right next door and it's pretty good. O'Brothers Irish Pub is kind of a dive pub. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
