I will give you Haubaugh, Even though he stated that he didnt even entertain offers from Any other nfl team. By looking at any of the other "opportunities, which one did you think that has experience turning around a bad team---- For example, Ryan went 6-10,8-8,and 4-12 from 2012 to 2014. by looking at his recent resume as a GM or owner--Do you seriously think he would have change things in Jax when he was on the decline in NJ?   

 

I wouldn't have wanted Ryan. My point was that proven winning NFL coaches CAN be found. Wade Phillips was an available winner when the Jags hired Mularkey. So was Jeff Fisher. Neither was even called to interview. Arians and Reid had winning records and were available when Bradley was hired. Just about every year a winning coach gets fired. This year it could be Garrett and Pagano.


 

My first choice would still be Jon Gruden. Maybe you are right that he'd rather work at ESPN. The Jags should at least ask him if and when Bradley is fired. One big advantage of Gruden (for those of us who still like Caldwell) is that he wouldn't want to be the GM too.

2013:

Luke Joeckel: Mediocre to garbage

Johnathan Cyprien: Mediocre to garbage

Dwayne Gratz: Mediocre to garbage

Ace Sanders: Cut

Denard Robinson: Good player

Jeremy Harris: Cut

Demetrius McCray: Aight, but apparently can't keep his spot over Gratz now


Got rid of Eugene Monroe, Daryl Smith, Brandon Marshall, and Justin Forsett, all players who went on to do just fine or even great elsewhere and that we REALLY use right now. And replaces them with at best mediocrity. At worst trash. Only free agent signing he brought in that was worth a damn was Sen'Derrick Marks and he basically got lucky there.


2014:

Bortles: Garbage

Lee: Constantly hurt and when he is on the field can't catch a freaking pass

Robinson: Looked good for a second and now that the pressure is on he is trash

Linder: Good player at worst, Stud at best

Colvin: Overhyped and has looked average or worst so far

Smith: Good player, looks like he may become a stud

Smith: Garbage, will be cut by next year

Bowanko: Average

Johnson: Cut


All his free agent signings last year were duds. Beadles sucks and is not worth anywhere near his money, he got dupe by Alex Mack offering him a contract like that that he just used to get his money from the Browns, Dekoda Watson cut in that same year, Ziggy Hood has done his job but whatever. And of course we know the saga of Toby out bellcow.


2015:

Fowler: Out for the season, Florida DE, I think he has very high bustibility anyway

Yeldon: Alabama running back, at least he looked decent today but my confidence has never been high in him, hope he proves me wrong

Cann: Can't be out Beadles

Sample: I have high hopes in him at least

Greene: Our most consistent receiver which says more about the trash we have than the pick itself

Bennett: Maybe a steal

Koyack/Sterling: Practice squad


And he really went out of his mind this year and paid a bunch of career backups starter money. House looks like trash, Skuta looks decent, Odrick...who knows, and of course our big marquee signing Julius Thomas is hurt like always.


This is the guy's track record. It's awful.

Good players don't need much from a coach to be good. You either have the skillsets or you don't. No amount of coaching is going to stop players from having mental breakdowns or consistently dropping balls giving up sacks or throwing picks. Our draft picks have been mostly just adequate and that's because they were mostly just adequate in college. Who are the game breakers? Which one of our picks was a true difference maker? Yea sometimes you can 'develop' raw talent but is that more of the coach or the actual player growing into his potential? I think its more the player. Long story short, Caldwell is a base hitter. If the NFL gave award for the ALL-BACKUP team he'd win.

Caldwell just had a blockbuster 2014 draft. It's too early to just his year's draft, but including rookie free agency he picked up Bortles, ARob, Linder, Telvin Smith, Chris Smith and Hurns... plus we still might see something out of Lee yet.


 

There is no comparison here. Caldwell is nothing like the pathetic excuse of a GM that Gene Smith was.

Even worse. What a different team it would be had we taken even just 1 or 2 of those guys. I think its too early to judge caldwells drafts, since he didn't make huge reaches and very questionable moves like Gene.

Sen'Derrick Marks has done a standout job since joining the team with a rather basic free agent contract.


 

We'll have to wait and see just how well this year's free agent class of Davon House, Parnell, Julius Thomas, Odrick, Skuta, Sergio Brown, Wiz, Bernard Pierce and Bryant Walters do.

Fowler is hurt this year so we don't know yet how great he'll end up being. It's very possible that in a few years we're glad we took him over Cooper. I haven't seen anything about Cooper being much of a difference maker in the Raiders game against the Bengals this past Sunday.

He has had much higher picks than Gene and His players just aren't performing anywhere near their draft value.  He also had done questionable things like pass on Amari Cooper when the team is lackin so much on the offensive side.

 

He may not as reach as much as Gene but his track record is even worse.  Wow this roster looks like garbage from top to bottom after 3 years and tons of cap space.  Khan maybe have to tear this whole thing down again and rebuild.  Caldwell and Bradley are not leading this team in the right direction.

 

This team has averaged less than 17 points a game the last 3 years.  Pathetic.

 

 

I wouldn't doubt it. I think the Gene Smith era has a higher winning percentage.

 

 

This year is Caldwell's third season so why include 2012 when looking at points per game?


 

As for winning percentages, keep in mind the roster that each GM inhereted. Gene inhereted Shack's roster with a team that won most of it's games early on. In Gene's final season he only won two games after hiring Mularkey as HC. Mularkey has gone down in the annals of league history as one of the few worst head coaches ever.
