I did not say fans can't criticize play calling.

But understand players and coaches are under no obligation to treat the criticisms as informed if they aren't.

Of course. Fans aren't under any obligation to trust coaches and front office because they are "professionals" and know more about football and what's going on behind the scenes.

This is true.

Just because someone is paid to do something doesn't mean they are any good at it and beyond reproach.

Gene Smith was paid to be GM and he stunk at it.

But success or failure of a given play, series of plays, or a game is influenced by far more than play calling.

Bortles is in a superior position than any of us to know, in the aftermath of a game, whether poor play calling was a factor.

Bortles specifically identified poor execution-taking responsibility for the pick 6 and other bad throws-as the reason for the offensive failures.  Receivers cited drops (a result/symptom of poor execution) as a reason.

Why not take him at his word here?

Do you deny his INT, the drops, the missed FGs, the missed blocks, etc., played a role in the loss to Carolina?

Before naptime I like to color a good Jaguars Offensive Line but I only have a red crayon so I got in trouble.  I still got to hear the naptime story of the Jaguars in the 1990s when the team had a real QB!

Quote:I don't think our QB is upset with fans.

He was asked by a reporter about fans being critical of play call. He gave a real honest truthful answer.

Most arm chair coaches and GMs don't really know what they are talking about.

We might be the ones getting called kindergartners, but the Jags are the ones getting schooled each week.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Quote:As a professional athlete you can't make fun of your fans and not expect a bit of backlash, but nobody will really care as long as he goes out on Sunday and plays like a 100 or higher QB Rating. If he doesn't and is actually a big reason of the loss as he was in week 1, and continues to make comments like this Gus will feel pressure to bench him for Chad.

I am sure I will get people thinking I'm dumb for saying that Gus would bench a healthy Bortles for Chad, but if he plays bad & makes fun of the fans afterwards on a weekly basis you can guarantee he will.

He didn't make fun of the fans though. He made a smart [BLEEP] comment to armchair gms.

And quite frankly, it's a personality like that which makes me like him as our QB. Doesn't get phased by criticism.

This whole thing shouldn't even be a story. If there was a news story for every time I was a smart [BLEEP] to customers well then I'd be on the news for the next 50 years.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Was the question ever asked why we abandoned the run?  It might be nice to know what they saw in the defense that would lead them to make that decision.  Educate us dumb kindergartners.  Dumb it down for us.

Quote:So fans can't criticize coaching or play calling because coaches obviously know more about the technical side of the game? That's news to me.
The point is you are criticizing something after the fact (hindsight is 20/20) without knowledge of the actual substance (what play was actually called, what the defense actually is, check downs, check outs), based on your very limited football knowledge (which expands from Madden to possibly Pop Warner and maybe some high school) and then complain on a message board full of twits just like you.

But carry on, carrying on. Surely something will come of it.

To me, the funny thing is two of the individuals who have taken the most exception to Bortles' comments ALREADY ADMITTED THEY DON'T HAVE THE SAME LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AS THE PLAYERS AND COACHES!

They seem ticked that a player actually bothered to quantify the difference.
