It wasn't garbage time against the Dolphins. I can see Bortles not only keeping up stats like this but also improving over time. To keep from having garbage time fourth quarters, the defense needs to seriously step it up as does the running game.

Blake keeps his eyes down field while in the pocket. Goobert would be peeking at the rush and would miss receivers running open downfield. The experts were right about Blaine's "eye level" being inadequate. Often times he would struggle to pass for 100 yards in an entire game. He can physically make any throw Blake can and then some, but he can't see nearly as much of the field. Blake struggles with accuracy due to his mechanics not yet being in sync all the time. Blaine struggled with accuracy because he was cowering away from pass rushers, both existent and non-existent. Both are physically large but Blake can take a hit whereas Blaine would get hurt every other game. One of these QBs problems are fixable, the other has permanent flaws that will cause him to be a career backup.


In summation, Blaine was the much better natural passer, but Blake has much better vision, pocket presence and natural football intangibles.

To me, he's still in the "got potential stage".  He seems to look like a QB who should be a terrific player but so far hasn't put it all together.  His accuracy is one thing that has bothered me this year but maybe that's a result of him remaking himself in terms of his mechanics.  We'll see.  I suspect he'll never be a top 5 guy but probably could be a top 10 guy.

It's what he thinks would be his stats after he adjusts for the drops, QB pressures, an upset stomach, random gusts of wind, sun being in Bortles' eyes, do-over's because Bortles wasn't playing for serious on that drive, and whatever other excuse he needs. After you adjust appropriately Bortles is a top 5 QB easy.

Really the only place he isn't significantly better than last year is completion% which is mostly (but not totally) explained by a higher drop rate. Also he's been more aggressive with throwing downfield, since his YPA is actually higher with the lower completion.  In the other categories he's gone from the worst starting QB in the NFL to just a below-average starter through 3 games this year... which to me is pretty good for where he is in his development. 
 
Edit: I didn't read the thread but from this page it seems like people are comparing him to Blaine. Last year, sure, I could see that. But this year that's asinine. Blaine never even approached playing as well as Blake has played so far.

He was the worst QB in Jaguars history and I'm even including the backups in my thought process as I never felt confident with Blaine in there that the team could win the game.
