2016 First Round Pick

Quote:

Coming to Florida, there is no state Income tax which means more money in his pocket and I think he could be signed for what the Bills paid Marcell Dareus which is 6 years - 108 Mil, averaging 18 Mil per season.

Everyone uses this as a selling point but players like Emmanuel Sanders, Devin McCourty, Demarco Murray and Darren Sharper will still use this franchise as leverage to sign with another.

It's happened far too many times.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

Despite all the doom and gloom on this board, I still believe the Jags can win 6 or 7 games this season. If the Jags win 6 games most likely they will pick around Pick 11. If they win 7 games, they most likely will pick around Pick 13. Assuming the Jags are selecting between Picks 11 to 13 in each round, I have developed a mock draft for such a scenario.

Free Agency:

The Jags have a connection to the Buffalo Bills through Doug Marrone, their former Head Coach. The Bills turned the corner with Marrone at the helm and it was because of some of the talent that he put into position to succeed. The Bills are going into the 2016 season with several players that will reach Free Agency because the Bills just can't afford to re-sign them. The two players below have been critical to the Bills success and will help the Jags reach the next level

1. Nigel Bradham - SLB - Bills - 6'2" 241 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - 5 Years - 30 Mil - $6 MIl/Yr

I believe the Jags need to upgrade their LB corps to better handle the pass happy NFL. I like what Dan Skuta has done at the Otto position, but I think he may be better suited to operate at the Leo position on early downs, where stopping the run and rushing the passer are both important. I would place Bradham at the SLB position for his ability to better cover TEs and to blitz the QB.

2. Cordy Glenn - OLT - Bills - 6'6" 345 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - 5 Yrs - 36 Mil - $7.2 Mil/Yr

Here the Jags sign Glenn to upgrade the OLT while moving Joeckel to OLG. I believe Joeckel could very well become an All-Pro OLG and together with Glenn could make the left side of the Jags O-line as strong at the point of attack in the running game as the right side of the line has become. Signing Glenn effectively provides the Jags with 3 OTs so in case of injury, Glenn could slide to the RT position with Joeckel manning the OLT position. Having OT depth is critical given how frequent injuries arise during any given season.

One side note: Signing Glenn allows the Jags to trade Zane Beadles for a Rd 5 draft pick. His trade also gets rid of his 6 Mil salary, which will soften the blow of signing Glenn to a 7.2 Mil/Yr. contract

Draft:

Picking between 11 and 13, I am assuming that the following players are off the draft board:

Joey Bosa, Robert Nkemdiche, Vernon Hargreaves, Jalen Ramsey and Jaylon Smith

Rd 1: Myles Jack - MLB - UCLA - 6'1" 232 Lbs - 4.58/40

Myles Jack suffered a torn meniscus during practice and had surgery that requires 4 to 6 months to recover. It is assumed that MJ will not be able to participate at the Combine and be very limited just prior to the draft. Still, Jack is a Top 10 pick and taking him just outside of the Top 10 picks offers value to the team. I see him as the future MLB taking over for Poz and teaming with Telvin Smith at WLB and Nigel Bradham at the Otto LB spot.

Rd 2: Hunter Henry - TE - Arkansas - 6'6" 255 Lbs - 4.73/40

Henry is the best all-around TE coming out in this draft class, although I do not expect him to be the first TE taken, (whom I believe to be O.J. Howard from Bama). The Jags have to move on from Marcedes Lewis and Henry is the guy to team with Julius Thomas and give the Jags a strong multiple TE offensive scheme. The fact that Henry comes from an offense at Arkansas that is run-first, will be helpful to the Jags run offense.

Rd 3: Jarran Reed - DE/DT - Alabama - 6'3" 318 Lbs - 4.82/40

The 2016 draft has an abundance of DT's coming out. One such player that is kind of a 2nd tier DT is Jarran Reed. I envision him playing at all three DT positions, but mainly at the Big DE spot and at the NT spot. He is not much of a pass rusher but he can clog up the middle of the field and help collapse the pocket.

Rd 4: Noah Spence - DE - Leo - Eastern Kentucky - 6'3" 255 Lbs - 4.72/40

Former Ohio State 5 Star recruit that got dismissed from the team and lost his 2014 season as a result. In 2013, he had 8 sacks and looked to be a future Rd 1 selection. He ended up at Eastern Kentucky and through 3 games he has a sack in each game. Granted the competition is not the same, assuming that Spence has straightened out his life and got his drug issues behind him, this guy could be a nice rotational Leo DE along with Fowler and Skuta.

Rd 5: Fabian Moreau - CB - UCLA - 6'0" 200 Lbs 4.53/40

Moreau is another UCLA Bruin that got injured this season. His injury is a fractured foot which again will impact his Combine and pre-draft testing. Still, Moreau is a 2nd day type player who is strong in run defense and can handle outside coverage.

Rd 5: Doug Middleton - FS - Appalachian State - 6'0" 210 Lbs 4.55/40

A small school player that has a big upside. Sideline to sideline coverage skills, strong tackler who should be a core special teams player as well as a backup Safety.

Rd 6: Jonathan Williams - RB - Arkansas - 5'11" 224 Lbs 4.58/40

Another player coming off an injury. Williams injured his foot and is out for 4 to 6 months, which will impact his Combine and predraft testing. Still, Williams ran for 1,190 yards in the SEC as a backup for Arkansas in 2014.

Rd 6: Curt Maggit - Otto/Leo - Tennessee - 6'3" 256 Lbs - 4.78/40

Maggitt is another player coming off injury. He suffered a hip injury early in the season and it is not known when he will return to the lineup. Maggitt offers pass rush skills with 11 sacks in 2014 for the Volunteers.

Rd 7: Trevone Boykin - QB - TCU - 6'1" 205 Lbs - 4.6/40

Boykin offers a unique skill-set similar to what Tyrod Taylor of the Bills offers. In a Zone Read type of scheme, Boykin could prove to be an interesting weapon as the backup QB for the Jags.

Stigma, just a couple questions with your mock offseason. With Flower coming back next year wouldn't he be playing the Leo on early downs? If Spence has cleaned up his act I feel like he won't fall to the 4th because of how good he was at OSU. I really like the Maggit/Reed picks!

WR-Marvin Jones/Mohammed Sanu/Travis Benjamin/Reuben Randle-We are not going to get Jeffery and this is tier 2 of the FA WRs and all are guys who are good #2's

DT-Jaye Howard-has not done much before this year but so far he has been a force for KC in the middle of the DL

ILB-Danny Trevathan-if you guys are tired of slow poz who cant cover then get danny trevathan because he flies all over the field and is a good coverage ILB

CB-Janoris Jenkins-has had a good NFL carrer so far going into his 4th year and has the chance to get paid and start opposite of House with Colvin in the slot

Draft

1st Round-Tunsil or Stanley: Both are big athletic LT that are easily the best 2 tackle prospects in the draft. This would give us 3 maybe 4 if you count WIz starting OL and the only question mark would be Beadles/Cann/Joeckel at the LG spot.

2nd Round-Vonn Bell-OSU-Saftey-5'11-205: Last year as his first year starting he had 93 tackles, 6 INTS and 6 passes broken up. This year he has 21 tackles, 1 INT and 6 passes broken up through 4 games. He is fast and has knack for getting to the ball. If you havent seen him check him out here

3rd Round-Jonathan Bullard-UF-DT-6'3-283: Guy has been an absolute force for UF this year and the coaches call him "unblockable" in practice and so far on the year he has 19 tackles and 4 sacks through 4 games. He is an undersized pass rushing DT which would fit great behind Marks. Sight problem, that would give us 3 UF DLmen in Fowler,Howard, and Bullard.

4th Round-Yannick Ngakoue-Maryland-DE-6'2-255:Guy has really good burst off the edge has 12.5 TFL and 6 sacks last year as a sophomore and so far this year he has 4.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks in 4 games. Would be a nice guy to have behind Fowler and to mix with Davis and maybe branch if he ever does something. Here

5th Round- James Burgess-Louisville-ILB-6'0-229-Guy has 32 tackles through 4 games this year and while he is a little undersized he is a fast LB who likes to tackle and would be a good back up for Trevathan.

5th Round-Denzel Nkemdiche-Ole Miss-OLB-5'11-208-Guy is overshadowed by his brother but his is a pretty good player himself. In the first 2 SEC games of the year he has 24 tackles and half a sack. Would be a good back up to Telvin

6th Round-Barry Sanders-Stanford-RB-5'10-198-Well his name is Barry Sanders and is the son of Barry Sanders so that alone is the main reason i want him but also he has had 20 carries for 157 and 3 TDs which averages for 7.9 yards per carry which is pretty dang good.

7th Round-Just trade it so i dont have to watch all 7 rounds

Regarding a Free Agent WR for 2016, call me crazy, but I still feel that Justin Blackmon will resurface at the end of this season, after his year long extended suspension, which should end in November.

Regarding the selection of Tunsil or Stanley, unless the Jags total tank this year and will 4 games or less, the Jags will not have an opportunity to draft either of these top 10 players.

BTW, in my scenario, the Jags gain an extra 5th round pick by trading Zane Beadles - after signing Cordy Glenn in Free Agency.

What if Tunsil doesn't play the whole year? I mean I know he is still the best tackle in the draft and teams always need LTs but ya jags would have to have a pretty bad year. I was saying the 5th was because of scobee but I forgot we got a 6th for him.

It looks like the Jags are on their way to a top 3 pick after their loss to the Colts. Who's the best available player at this time? Looks like a weak draft. I'd say get playmakers, hargraves, Treadwell, nkiedmeche. No boring o-lineman.

YES LETS GET THE RUMORS GOING AGAIN IM ALL FOR IT!!!

Seriously though, I'll always be on board with Blackmon coming back. Even with the ups that Robinson has.

Hargreaves would be sick. It'd be nice to see another Rashean Mathis in Jax finally. Pairing him with Fowler coming back it'll be like having two first round draft picks, coincidentally both coming from UF. GO GATORS!

Vernon has the potential to be way better than Sheen. He is definitely my current choice if we ended up drafting high.

Can't disagree with you on that one. UF produces CB's, nobody can deny that. VH3 looks like the best CB ever out of UF at this point, and that's over Joe Haden, Janoris Jenkins, and countless others before them.

Quote:Have you seen Ramsey play?

Quote:Ramsey would have to put on like 30 lbs. He is a corner/safety all the way.

I really misstated my intent with that post. It's not that I think Ramsey should or even would play MLB the way that Poz does. But that his type of skill set is how I see Linebackers moving in the future where they are more safety / Defensive Back than a traditional LB. I realize that Ramsey would have to undergo an almost complete body type change in order to play the spot in the same as Poz, and I don't want him to do that. It's just that I feel like the LB corps and the DBs could use a talent like him on the roster.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Hargreaves for me, I think he is the best playmaker and a true shutdown corner.  Best corner to come out since Patrick Peterson IMO.  Dude has always been good, he was also the best player to come out of High School.

Hargeaves in the first and Ala MLB Reggie Ragland in the 2nd.  Our defense would be greatly improved, also add in Fowler and I could easily see a top 10 defense.

Here is Ragland

Go offense in free agency

Not a bad plan. The defense (especially the front 7) needs some youth.

After this weeks loss to the Colts. Seems like we could very well end up in the top 5 again in the 2016 draft.

Assuming we pick 3 again.

1(3): Trade down to 1(7) for a 2nd rounder. We draft Robert Nkemdiche DT/DE. This creates rotation with Fowler, Odrick, Marks, and Nkemdiche.

2(35) Reggie Ragland ILB. Poz on 1st and 2nd downs. Ragland on 3rd downs. Eventually he starts over Poz.

2(39) Cameron Sutton CB. Tall physical corner, we need competition there.

3(67) Jason Spriggs OT. Tall tackle with potential. Needs to add weight and learn technique. More competition at LT/RT.

FA: Tashaun Gipson FS. Resign Clay Harbor and Wiz.

Deacon don't worry I understand where your coming from now.Ramsey is quite impressive making open field tackles and reacting to the run whilst displaying quality coverage skills, with linebackers like Lavonte David and our own Telvin playing well in the NFL its not too far fetched to imagine players like Ramsey playing LB in 10 years time.

If this season goes down hill, I would do the following.

First you need to determine the coaching situation. We could go in house with Marrone, hope to get a guy like Payton, or the coordinator route with a guy like McDaniels or Hue.

I would throw big money at Tashaun Gipson and then sign a younger LB like Stigma's boy Nigel Bradham.

1st - Vernon Hargreaves - We get our playmaker and shutdown corner that we have been coveting since Sheen's prime

2nd - Hunter Henry - Seems like TEs are scoring all the points in the league so the Jags get a good one to pair with Julius.

I haven't seen enough to fill out the rest of the draft but I would look at guys like Jonathan Bullard or Devante Fields. Then draft a LB in the midrounds (Hardy Nickerson Jr).

I may get flack but I would seriously consider Aguayo if he was there in the 4th. The guy is automatic and it would be nice to not have to worry about the kicker spot for another decade.
