It's puzzling to me that many don't want a coach from the college ranks considering the best coach this team has ever had came from BC. I have no real idea who we should hire to be the next guy to lead this team because that's above my pay grade. What I do know is we need a coach who is dedicated to detail and discipline. A true football junkie who is serious about creating a winning culture and not some guy who wants his players to be his friends. Caldwell is probably going to get to pick another coach and he better make it count.

These coaches won't mean jack [BLEEP] if we don't get a better GM.

Quote:lol @ Gus having potential. What have you seen in 2 and a quarter years from him that would lead you to that conclusion? Dude is still doing the same dumb stuff
The biggest reason I think he has potential is Bortles. Bortles seems to love him and that bond will drive Bortles to improve.

yes, Bortles won't want to improve unless he's buddy buddy with the Coach.....

We lose nothing if we get rid of Gus. Nothing.

Learning a third system in three years when he's still trying to improve his mechanics and accuracy while dealing with a dick coach and fans who hate on him... Yeah, I think that has potential to ruin him.

Edit: Wait.. Why is "dick" allowed? I've had words preschoolers used removed before

Then he's not the right guy anyway.

When the best argument for keeping Gus is "they won't have to adjust to a different coach" ... You know he's not the right guy.

You guys act like I'm defending Gus. I wasn't happy when the jaguars hired him and I'm still not happy now. But sometimes you have to weigh your options and pick the lesser of two evils. If losing Gus does ruin Bortles, the franchise is set back a lot farther than keeping him on

Why would losing gus set Bortles back? He doesn't call plays, he doesn't coach the offense, and he doesn't work on his mechanics.

Enough with the franchise is set back stuff. there can be a quick turnaround by just having the right guy at the top. you see it every year in the NFL. look at Oakland, even Washington is much more competitive.

Think about it this way:

Is Gus the guy so far? Definitely not (8-28 record).

In any alternate universe, do you see Gus becoming a successful coach here in Jacksonville? I say definitely not.

Then what are we waiting for? I know he's not the guy. Let's get someone else in. That other person may or may not be the guy - but coming from someone who has proven now (again and again) that he just isn't made to be a successful head coach, that's an improvement.

I would give Mike Smith a call for starters. Maybe even a good college coach with plenty of head coach experience.

If Gus is gone, then I want an offensive minded guy here.

I think Bortles likes Oley more than Gus.

If Maronne keeps Oley, then Bortles shouldn't have any set backs...

assuming you pitchfork holders are right

Can the franchise really be set back any further than it already is? 8-28

Fire Gus now? I'm against that. Let the season play out and let's see what happens

The third last thing I want is to have Blake have to learn a new system

The second last thing I want is to keep a HC that has proven he is in over his head

The last thing I want is to hire a new HC that proves he too is in over his head

Btw, I'm assuming Myers was caldwell's doing, not Bradley's. So you guys are blaming the wrong guy for yesterday's loss. And you can add that to the list of questionable things Caldwell has done since he got here, including hiring this coaching staff.
