The Giant Fire Gus & Dave Thread (MERGED)

Quote:Does it really takes 3 years tho? Look at the Jets, Falcons,Cardinals... Its kinda sad, really! Gus has had ample time! He just doesnt have it! Im pretty sure the expectation as a coach is to win every game, and be competitive. Not take 3 seasons too lose... Sry its looking like we failed picking up Gus! Back to the Rebuild.Did the Falcons gut their roster? Did the Jets? Cardinals? The Jaguars completely blew up the roster 3 years ago, and in year 2, they went with a roster that had more rookies starting at key positions than any other team in the league. Even today, it's still one of the youngest rosters in the league, especially among front line starters. So, yes, It should have been expected for this process to take 3 years before the team started to turn the corner. We'll see if that timeline actually is achieved soon enough. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm still waiting for the "but Tim Tebow just wins" arguments.

Quote:Feel free to find a single sentence in any post where I have suggested that I expect fans to be happy with the way the team loses ANY game. Did I say Bradley said the team was built to make the playoffs? He said the team was built to compete for the division. http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/14368/bradley-caldwell-understand-progress-measured-by-victories Losing to a struggling Colts team without their best player is not showing anyone that this team is "built". Maybe Gus should keep statements like that to himself unless he's willing to back it up with results on the field.

Show me where either Dave or Gus said the team was going to compete for the division. I've read it twice. It's built means the team should be more competitive, and that this should ultimately turn into more wins. Nothing about competing for the division this year, but read into it what you must. Barely losing to a bad colts team in week 4 with 3 key starters being injured during the game, another player expected to be a key contributor on the IR, and two other critical components, one on each line, missing the game. They were missing Luck. We were missing a lot more than one guy. It was a game between two bad teams. I honestly don't think the outcome would have been dramatically different if Luck was in the game to be honest. It's not like the colts have been lighting it up this year with him on the field. I think you're putting way too much focus on "it's built" and not really recognizing what they meant. The article lays it out for you better than I ever could, but for some reason, you still ignore their point. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Quote:If you can't beat Matt hasselbeck and a bad colts team, then you aren't going to be competing for the division anytime soon Can you point out where his comment suggested competing for the division this year? I would suggest that the team is built to learn and improve over time. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:Did the Falcons gut their roster? Did the Jets? Cardinals? Where I fault the decision is as follows.... You had to have the scouting reports on the available free agents and the upcoming bad draft class (2012). You decide to gut the team when the new CBA restricts practices and favors established teams. You don't say you have a three year plan, really it is a five year plan. Year four will be depend on how we end this year. The way I look at it is at least we aren't the Cowboys and Eagles. Those teams had playoff and superbowl aspirations. We have please make us relevant again hopes. Maybe next year.

It's built means the team should be more competitive, and that this should ultimately turn into more wins. Nothing about competing for the division this year, but read into it what you must. "Bradley said as much during the team’s annual kickoff luncheon earlier this month, when he said he told his players during a meeting just before training camp that the objective was to build a team that owns the AFC South. "It’s built, and it’s time, and our players need to have that mentality," he said." Says as much right here. "Last year we were competitive," Caldwell said. "We were in 14 of 16 games at halftime/third quarter. Well now hopefully with the influx of talent, with some more experience with our players playing a year, going into year three, maybe those three-point games or those four-point games are going to swing into our favor and then you get on a little bit of a roll." Right out of Caldwell's mouth. We're still losing those kind of games. Nothing is changing. "Even the loss of first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr. (torn ACL), injuries to tight end Julius Thomas (hand) and defensive end Andre Branch (knee), and the fact defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks is not yet ready to return from a torn ACL aren’t dampening hopes." From the team writer who I'm assuming has more access what the coaches are saying behind the scenes than the average fan. By the way I'm reading that injuries are no excuse. And if you think that the outcome of yesterday's game wouldn't be any worse with Andrew Luck playing, all I have to say to that is 161-43. That's the point differential between these 2 teams against Luck.

As much as I love making valid points (and the occasional bit of trolling) I'm gonna have to be done with this board I think. I don't know where the optimistic few of you are coming from, but I'm sure you're lovely people.
It has been fun debating and what not. In reality though, this franchise finds itself in dire straights yet again. We're almost back to square one. A team with marginal talent, an uncertain qb situation, and a battered head coach. Maybe one day we will put it all together, but it is becoming more and more evident that, at the very least, Gus isn't the guy to lead this team going forward. Haley/ Hue Jackson 2016. Take Care
Don't even. The Falcons defense was complete garbage last year and look at them now. Hell, few of them are guys we cut like Durant. Our team is bad because the coaching is terrible.

Quote:Of course. That's what the pitchfork and torch crowd demands. Someone's head must be delivered on a platter or they won't be happy. Once that happens, they'll want another head, then another....Give me a decent team that competes week in and week out and i"m happy. The Jags haven't provided that in nearly a decade. Oh and if the majority of people have an opinion and only a select few like yourself have a different one maybe they should look in the mirror on who they are calling idiot. ![]() Quote:I'm capable of looking at this hot mess in its entirety, and it's not just the coaching that's the issue with this team. The problem with single issue folks is they dismiss ALL other factors as "excuses" because you're fixated on one target at a time.Right cause we should trust your sound Judgment. *gene smith worshipper* ![]() ![]()
Quote:You know it's a bad season when friends opine the loss of Jack Del Rio. Well, JDRs best season record-wise was 12-4. (and he had a prime Peyton Manning to contend with so that record did NOT win the AFCS) Gus' best season record-wise was 4-12 (Wasn't JDR's worst record 5-11, and that got him fired) See the difference. Now that 12-4 record might have been JDR's 3rd season, so to be fair, this is Gus' 3rd season, so technically there is still a chance that he could have a breakout coaching season here in yr 3, but let's just say he's not off to a very good start, especially after Sunday's loss to Grampa Hasslebeck.

Quote:Dude, we're 31st in scoring in the NFL. There is just a bit more wrong than this. Are we really 31st in scoring? Hmmmmmm, maybe we need a new OC?

Quote:Are we really 31st in scoring? Sadly, yes, we are. But we were 32nd the last two years, so anyone who isn't happy with this astounding improvement simply can't be pleased by anything the jags do. |
