Everyone keeps offering him as an alternative..why do you want him as HC?

 

 

This is a curious one for me as well.

 

Maybe he's learned his lessons, that often happens.  That would be for Caldwell to figure out.

All I know is I want someone who has some toughness to him. I know fans do not like that harsh tone type coach but I think we could use that guy. I also think if we're willing to overpay FA's to come here we should consider overpaying a HC to come here.

I'm happy it hasn't. The man lobbied to trade the franchise for RG3, then proceeded to spend two years [BLEEP] all over him.

 

I think Greg Roman is a fairly likely candidate.

I like Roman a lot. He got the absolute max out of Kap, who is very clearly a below-average quarterback but excelled in Roman's system. Now he's making chicken salad out of chicken dookie with Buffalo's offense. Very impressive body of work, and I think he'd be a perfect fit for Bortles.

 

HC's with past failure and success know what it takes to succeed and can bypass the learning curve first time HC's need to get acclimated to. We need someone to come in and hit the ground running.

That learning curve didn't seem to bother Dan Quinn, Bruce Arians or John Harbaugh, among others, in the slightest. Limiting the search to only guys with previous head coaching experience...well...this seemed better suited for a meme.

I don't see how you can lose with simply promoting Doug Marrone for the rest of the season. You keep your coordinators in place with no disruption. He knows the system and has experienced the losing culture firsthand this season, so in theory he'd have a leg up on knowing what has to change. If he doesn't make positive changes by season's end, no loss. If he does, you have your new head coach. No risk either way.

My thoughts exactly. Gus is done. The team isn't winning. Pull the trigger, let marrone run the show. See if you've got something. If not, figure it out in the off season.

Another good point is that it keeps Bortles in the same offense.

My personal favorite is Wade Phillips, he has done wonders with the Broncos D and he was not bad in Dallas just got trashed because of the TO/Romo/Jerry situation. He has had 2 losing seasons in his career one was 7-9 and the other was 1-7 in his last year at Dallas

 

No thanks. We already have a guy who has gone 1-7, we don't need to bring in another one.

 

Wade Phillips just seems to be a better coordinator then HC, another Gus Bradley trait.

 

I won't argue Wade would be an upgrade over Gus, it would be hard not to, but the Jags can do better.

This is Hue Jackson, I actually think he did an OK job his one year with the Raiders.


Just don't give him control of personnel like he had in Oakland.


I would be okay with this hire though as long as we keep Caldwell.

Caldwell has two options, either find a HC with experience as a HC or roll the dice at the college level. Grabbing another coordinator would be unacceptable. Also the new HC better be offensive as it'll be Bortles third offense in as many years
