Quote:I'm sure this has been posted in other threads but (a.) I refuse to sift through all the wreckage and (b.) it totally deserves its own thread.

On the big Rainey punt return, Bernard Pierce was blocking for the Bucs.  Had a clear lane to make the tackle, but inexplicably had his back to the runner and attempted to block a Buccaneer as Rainey ran right by him.  There is NO EXCUSE for this. It's simply a sloppy lack of focus that the coaching staff has permitted for too long.  No one is held accountable for poor performance let alone for just pure boneheaded plays.

I don't care if he's a better backup RB than what's out there. He needs to be cut to show that this kind of nonsense will not stand.

See for yourself:

A new Jaguars low and that's not an easy thing to do.

Get ready for the world to see this on C'MON MAN and NOT TOP TEN.

It ain't easy being a Jags fan.

This would be the most likely explanation.  If you had to play for the Jags, hard to blame people for having a little pre-game drink.

Quote:Yeah, there's another thread on this but...  This one actually has his name in the title...

I'm gonna keep saying this until someone tells me how right I am...

He must have had a major brain injury...  That's the only rational explaination...  They should be having him go through the concussion protocols.  If he didn't have a concussion, you just gotta cut the dude...

But man, I just don't get it...  Had to be a concussion..
I think he realized that he wasn't up to tackling the punt returner because you can see in the video that he clearly sees the runner coming toward him and only then turns his back to the returner and pushes the bucs player near him... giving the appearance that he is blocking for the returner! This was a case of someone doing something really weak to try to not look bad by blowing a tackle.

This is the only rational explanation I can come up with. The man would rather turn his back to the returner and pretend he didn't see him coming right at him rather than attempt a tackle. This is the kind of players we currently have on our team; gutless wonders with no heart who get a nice pay check to go out and lay eggs. Well, this one was a little too obvious and Pierce needs to be cut immediately.

end of story.

After reconsidering this possibility, I withdraw my earlier accusation and will wait to see if indeed he had received a sever blow to his head that would possibly lead to this kind of irrational activity on the field. But barring that possibility, the dude should be shown the door. This is an embarrassment.

Like I said, that type of lack of situational awareness gets people killed in my line of work.

Pierce should be deactivated after that, at the very least.

I was at the game and the Bucs fans around me couldnt believe what Pierce did.

They laughed at me about that the rest of the game.

Any possibility it was intentional?  I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and I know it would be hard to accept, but I’m just asking.

He’s probably been on punt coverage since he was 12-years-old.  Every team in America at every level runs what he is supposed to be doing.  "Serious brain damage?”  In today’s NFL if he had serious brain damage, he wouldn’t be out there.

This isn’t hard to grasp.  He is supposed to maintain outside leverage on the return man. It’s clear as day - his job is (or was) to light up Rainey at the 45-yard-line.  Instead he encircles a Bucs player in space.  Note how quickly he pivots when he sees Rainey finding a crease (after returning it for 25 yards at that point).  Why?  “I can’t really explain it.”  Money on Tampa, possibly?

He may have had money on the game. The league should investigate. Maybe the whole team is in on this.
