Gus delivers new message to his team

I will be curious to see how players play in the next two games...

Players always have positive things to say about Gus, but I am sure they think he will be fired at the bye if they don't win the next two games.

If the team comes out flat the players might want Bradley gone as much as the fans...

Just listening to Cris Carter saying when he went down to Atlanta how important and usually blown off how good coaching is to a team. Because without having one who can scheme and put the players you have in the best position on gameday, you don't have a chance. He said Julio Jones told him they basically have the same team from last year just a coach who knows what he's doing. Gus Bradley is a failure as a head coach in this league and it would be nothing but another losing season if he comes back for another one.

Now you're curious?

He's gone man. Regardless of the next 2 games.

Quote:It's just hard to me to understand how this defense is so bad knowing he's a defensive minded coach having been brought over from that great Seahawks defense. I thought at least the defense would show something, but they're rock bottom. The only thing I can figure is that the entire scheme is predicated on having a top level LEO and OTTO, and he doesn't exactly have either.

The defense is predicated on having good players...and he doesn't have enough. Dave Caldwell has spent THREE out of his 10 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round draft picks on defense:Cyp, Gratz, and Fowler. One has been inconsistent (Cyp), the other no longer a starter (Gratz), and the third is hurt.

House has been solid but has spent as much time off the field as he does on field due to injuries. Odrick has been invisible except for the last stretch vs. Miami. Skuta has been solid and so has Sergio (up until last game) but both of those guys were brough in as relative stop-gap players.

Clemons is past his prime (and he was already a step slow last season), Branch is still Branch, Tyson is still Tyson.

When your front four is getting blown off the LOS, your LBs not setting the edge and can't get off blocks...well that's how you give up 100+ yards on the ground and 3 TDs.

nah... finishing the year after a 1-4 start with 8 or more wins would surely save his job.

Quote:I know.  I was just as frustrated with that as anyone else.  But the D and special teams lost this game.  I just can't blame Bortles when he throws for over 300 yards and 4 TD's.  He left plays on the field, but also made some great throws.

This. I laugh when the announcers kept talking about not using timeouts. Why? We couldn't stop them. Without all three timeouts, we probably don't score our last touchdown (a couple of the throws were stopped in middle of field, along with that big Bortles run, IIRC).

If the defense did its job and stopped them (instead of allowing them to get yet another first down), we get an extra 2 minutes. With that additional time, we could have went downfield, score and be down 7 AND THEN have 3 timeouts to kill the clock rather than relying on very low odds of onside kick.

But none of that matters, because even if we had 3 timeouts, based on how that game went, I have zero confidence that we could have stopped them.

And that's gonna happen?

Maybe we win next week. Most likely lose to Buffalo.

Best case is 2-5. Fired during the BYE week. Marrone takes over.

Hire Hue Jackson in the offseason.

I think winning the next two games gets him to the end of the season. If they were going to fire him before the bye they would have done it today.

I can't imagine him still being here next year at this point. He may be getting out coached, but he doesn't seem to have lost the locker room yet.

Just wondering what the players are thinking at this point?

Quote:You keep saying this.  This team has about 3 pieces in place.  The defense just gave up 200 yrds rushing to the buccaneers.  Our Dbs can't luck into an interception.  No one on d can tackle.  The oline gave up 6 sacks, and we avg about 3 inches a carry in the run game.

Whatever makes you feel better I guess.

Hell these pieces can't even go one game without a illegal formation on on Offense.

They had a 12 men on the field penalty yesterday, the damn dumbest penalty possible.

All of those mistakes you mentioned reflect on the coaching.

No. I'm done with coordinator hires. This team needs a proven commodity. And hue made the same boneheaded call that Gus did yesterday that caused a TO returned for a TD. He admitted as much in his interview with Peter King

I want a proven guy too but I doubt thats really gonna happen.

Yep. Rush defense is fixable. You have to control the gaps and be disciplined. When JDR came in and his team got rushed on a game, he immediately drew a line in the sand and fixed it. You know it's bad when were referencing JDR for coaching suggestions

So Gus all of a sudden magically is upset at his team for their performance?

He stated there has was numerous blown assignments and missed tackles, etc.

For now the 3rd consecutive week the team was penalized for either illegal procedure or too many men on the field.

As I said last week, Gus is manipulating Dave and either the players are taking advantage of it or are caught as a pawn in the middle.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

If Khan is as committed to winning as we think he is he will open the wallet. He's no Weaver in that sense(I hope).

If he wins in London it will be hard for Khan to fire him before the bye.

JDR also had Big John and Stroud, with Mike Pete behind him. That's a faaaaar cry from Miller, Alualu, and and undrafted MLB.

Hard to believe this team once had John Henderson, Marcus Stroud, Mike Peterson, Daryl Smith, Donovin Darius, and Rashean Mathis all on the same team. We don't have one player on defense who could hold a candle to ANY of those players. Poz MIGHT be the closest, but his massive inability in pass protection keeps him away.

*edit* Marks is close too, but still no Stroud or Henderson.

Ugh.... some people just don't get it.

Fire Gus. Place Maronne as coach. Then hire Hue Jackson next season (or some college guy, or some retread, or some other OC)

And start over...

so you guys can be doing this again in 2 and a half seasons.

I remember.... not too long ago... Cincy fans were done with Marvin Lewis. The owner was stupid for keeping him... yadda yadda.

Marvin Lewis has had some really good teams and some really crap teams....

and he's been in Cincy for like 8+ seasons.

Maybe... just maybe we could just let this ride for a bit before doing the Cleveland Shuffle again?

PLEASE?!

IF Gus goes, and we move Marrone in, I'd rather Marrone just stay and keep the majority of the offensive staff in place.
