I saw something on nfl.com on this and thought i'd get a discussion going here.  Would you want to trade for him, and if so, what would you be willing to give up?

The NFL.com report is Sean Payton will listen if he gets opportunities. That means he wants to choose his team. And of course he has not ruled out staying in New Orleans either. Also, the Saints can prevent him from getting another job.

Loosen up the defense at the seams with quick passes to denard and julius, then hit them on the edges and over the middle with robinson and hurns. Once its loosened up, yeldon has the running lanes he needs.

People don't seem to remember that the Saints still play ALL of the AFC South plus their own division this year. Yes they lost to Carolina on the road and Tampa once, but that is still 7 very winnable games. On top of that they play Detroit, Washington, and the Giants. 

 

Basically, if Brees plays like this for the rest of the season, they easily have a chance to get back into the wild card hunt. NFC doesn't have much depth at the top. 

 

Essentially Payton is not going anywhere.

You realize he is currently being paid $8 million dollars this year and for 2 more years. Before he is even traded, both he and Drew Brees would have to give their okay. On top of that, it would be a trade meaning the Jaguars would have to give up players/picks, which would at minimum be a 2nd round pick plus fillers.

I do. I also do know that our coaching situation is our biggest liability. We're in a vacuum right now in the AFC south where theres a lot of parity and nobody is particularly good. With the right coaching, we would be at the top of the division right now.

What vacuum? We almost beat the Colts. We almost beat the Buccaneers. Our next game is against the Texans, so it is winnable too. That is not bad coaching. It is growing pains with our young players. Eventually, the almost-wons will turn into wins and more people will start to support Gus Bradley. I can see improvement every week. Coaching can always improve, of course, the game-losing errors are usually by players, not coaches. Just ask Jason Myers.

"we almost beat the colts"... you do realize that the dolts were playing with a 40+ year old backup quarterback, don't you? The bucs were playing with a rookie quarterback who has been a turn over machine up until they play us. 'Almost' only counts with WMD's and horseshoe tossing. I don't see any more wins at this time of year than we have in the last two, so the 'improvement' you are referring to must just be individual stats, which are utterly meaningless to the team record. I remember when MoJo had the league most yards record.... but the team was awful and our record reflected it!

 

I do agree with you, however, that this debacle of a season (so far) isn't totally on the coaches. The GM is responsible for hiring sub-par players such as Jason Myers. By the way... all of the games are 'winnable', we just fail to do so far more often than not. The record indicates there is no tangible evidence of this team being any better now than it was two years ago. That is a failure of the GM and coaches.

 

However... the season isn't yet halfway over and there is still the possibility (granted, it's remote) that the team could turn things around and prove they are better than they were two years ago. Individual stats prove nothing about a team, and football is a team sport.

Here's the facts...

Falcons had 4 4th quarter come backs to become undefeated.

 

Saints hit em on the chin early and they couldn't come back. Falcons D has been over achieving.... last night, they didn't.

I think the Saints were never as bad as their record suggested. And the Falcons were never as good as the other undefeated teams in the league.

 

just my opinion.... after that game I don't think the Saints are running the table (or even making the playoffs)

and I don't think the Falcons tailspin either...

Do jag fans not realize that Payton is going to want total control over personnel matters like he has now? That's the price to get him if he becomes available. Sean Payton the coach is fantastic. Sean Payton the personnel guy will ruin your franchise rendering Payton the coach powerless.

So if Payton were coach, the entire game would've unfolded exactly the same and come down to two Myers field goals?  That's logic?
