The Giant Fire Gus & Dave Thread (MERGED)

Hey...  So that one Harbaugh that is still in the NFL may come available...  Wouldn't it be awesome if the Ravens were dumb enough to fire him?

Quote:At least next weeks game is early, so we can get that bad taste out our mouth's earlier.

And we will get to watch a full double-header of real NFL teams instead of one of those games being the Badley lead Jags.

Triple header if you watch the Sunday night game.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Bingo, we've progressively gotten worse since Gene Smith all the way through David Caldwell, but some people want to stick their heads in the sand and pretend this roster is even remotely talented. It's average to below average across the board, and that gets you nothing in the NFL.

Quote:It's about more than draft picks, not a single roster under Gene Smith was as bad as this mess. We went from bad to God I hope we can pull out 3 wins in a season.

Those two make Shack Harris look like a genius in reality. Denying that Caldwell has failed to assembly any kind of competent talent on this roster is just taking the easy way out and say it's all on Gus. This is easily one of the worse rosters in franchise history, that lands right at the feet of the GM that took three years to put this garbage together.
The majority of the players Gene drafted are no longer in the league man. Caldwell is so much better than Gene. ARob and Hurns are better than any player gene drafted or signed. HE DRAFTED A PUNTER IN THE 3RD ROUND.

The GMs job is to acquire talent. Gene didn't do that. He had a good coach in JDR then he had Mularkey who got 2 wins.

Arob and Hurns are better than Blackmon?

IS Joeckel better than Monroe?

What about Cyprien or Gratz, either of them playing better Cox did?

Yes Gene Smith busted HARD, no ones denying that, and yet at any point during his time as a GM the roster was NEVER as bad as this collosal garbage Caldwell has managed to assemble. Blowing up a roster is fine, but damn it you give me something worse than you blew up!?

There is exactly a 0% chance of that happening.

When it goes public, it's usually a sign that things have collapsed in private.

Lol Blackmons not in the league so yea, they're better. Monroe was good.

I'm not even saying Caldwell is the all mighty savior but he's definitely better than Gene. I mean he got us Blake.

I'll give him Blake but you gotta have more than a QB, its about results and Caldwells rosters have failed on epic proportion. He gets a pass with the coach, since he hired an idiot he gets a mulligan. But my money says a new coach won't change much if we don't get better talent on the field. When Caldwell assembles a roster I'll give him the nod he's an improvement over Gene Smith. Let that sink in at this point we're hoping he can assemble a roster better than what Gene Smith gave us...............

Caldwell is undoubtedly better than GENE SMIFF.....

Don't forget, some of our impact players during Gene's tenure were from Shack's era.

It doesn't help that Caldwell's idiot coach is letting Demetrius McCray play special teams while Dwayne Gratz gets toasted like an English muffin out there, or that he puts an undrafted rookie with speed and nothing else out there deep in his own territory on a key play. Caldwell's not responsible for the illegal formations, the holding calls, the 12-man penalties, the clock mismanagement, none of it. That all falls directly on the coaches. I see nothing to lead me to believe that Caldwell is a crap GM. I see everything to lead me to believe that Bradley is a crap coach.

How do you know the roster is bad when the coach is literally this bad?

A good coach would have this team at 3-2 and we aren't having this discussion. I get what you're saying about the talent on this team. Caldwell isn't without blame. There are deficiencies on this team but man.... You're talking about Gene Smith dude.

And for anyone who says interim coaches run the same system, Dan Campbell came in a completely changed everything relatively speaking

Gus talks about the personal responsibility and about the players pressing... well, what about him?

For starters, every game he's wasting a time out with a bad red flag throw.

Then in this game he never seems to realize that Hopkins is flat out owning House and never does roll additional coverage his way. He was pressing by trying to force that situation to work, when he should have manned up and realized it was going to take more to stop Hopkins. The decision to not double Hopkins was an epic failure that had more to do with this loss than anything the players did.

Oh my word, I just saw this gem from Gus' postgame press conference in regards to why things went so badly out there:

"We did press, so I think the team’s got to recognize that. … I think that this game they pressed more. They tried to make plays, tried to make something happen."

Welcome to Jacksonville, where trying to make plays is a negative.

OK this is bad and is the type of thing that could actually lead to Gus getting the boot next week.

Is he quoting a Mularkey post-game presser?

I'm glad to see at least one man call it what it is...

Complete lack of leadership, starting at the top!

No, he legitimately said that players trying to make plays contributed to the loss. It's in the View from the O-Zone article on the front page.

Or maybe it was just Benn voicing his frustration that in addition to split salaries, players on IR also get only half a sundae. That sort of preferential treatment can poison a locker room. Just ask Urban Meyer.
