My husband is in a similar situation. But we're thankful for the double time holiday pay and that he's employed, so we don't complain too much.

I don't get double time on public holidays unless it's overtime...

 

If I am scheduled to work a public holiday, I get a day in lieu added to my annual leave allowance..

Thankfully my husband gets paid double time for every federal holiday he works as well as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. It seems in the past several years he has worked on nearly all of them even though he has a rotating schedule at a place that's open 24/7 and 365 days a year.

I have a rolling 4 week rota, for my local Ambulance Service, it's hard work and long hours.. this year I finish on Christmas morning at 6.30AM which is the start of 5 days off, so it's not all bad.. next year I'm rostered as days off over the Christmas period.. it would be just my luck that a rota change will be implemented... hehehe..

I'm tall and long in the arms and legs and there are never any pants, jeans, long sleeve shirts/sweaters/jackets that are long enough for me that don't cost a butt ton of money. It's doesn't cost THAT much more to add a couple of inches of fabric to make things long enough for us Amazon women.

 

Oh, and that at 5'10" and 140lbs I'm considered 'plus sized'. That really grinds my gears.
