Quote from Shad Khan on Dave and Gus

Quote:I am fine with Khan's quote. Gus has gotten this team better from last season to this. Much. Heck, the improvement started the second half of last season. Started out last year getting absolutely obliterated. This year it really has been more competitive. It's still an extremely young roster, youngest in the league. It takes patience.

I just hope Khan had a meeting with the two and said something to the effect of, you've got time, but we need to start getting W's asap.

We were "more competitive" against a bunch of ham sandwiches with QB issues.

Reminds me of that commercial with the participation trophies. This is the NFL, not the YMCA.

Quote:Lets be honest. Has it come to the point where we may not even trust this organization to make the correct pick at #1?

Under Caldwell:

Joeckel - probably a miss, weak draft class, playing better but not up to the #2 pick

Bortle - in all likelihood our franchise QB

Fowler - unknown

I have no reason not to trust his #1 picks.

Its about the qb. If the qb progresses then stability should be the biggest concern.

Quote:Sooooooooo.....Would you rather us tank this year or who would you hire tonight to get us to 6-10?  That's .500 the last 10 games of the year.  Show me this light you see.
'Tanking' for this team is a non-necessity, since they are so adept at losing without going out of their way to do so.... at least until tanking would help, and then they just have to win those games at the end of an already lost season to fluff up the stats and pave the way for other teams to get the best players.

because we're jagwires.

Jerry Jones would never let this kind of slide happen in Dallas... Head's would have rolled last year. That's why he's always got a team that competes.

I'm not sure what the balance is. Even the most critical fan can admit that this team is better. If you look at the individual stats you can see many players have improved dramatically. However, even with the improvements, we still aren't winning, scoring, or stopping other teams from scoring. So, we have the talent, but not the aggressive nature on offense, defense, and special teams. It very might be a coaching issue as to why we aren't being able to utilize the talent we have. On the other end, players also have to perfom. Padding numbers in garbage time is not performance. Many of our players don't seem to have that killer instinct and they are playing just for the paycheck. Obviously winning 1 game so far this year is a sure way to discourage your team.

So, do we have a better team? Yes. By far.

Does that trump the badness of our season? Not sure. Yes, we still suck. Yes, we still cannot win. Yes, we are still last in points and points against. It's pretty confusing as to why we can't win more with the individual talent we have.

I believe Khan is doing things the way that have brought him success in the business world...hire the best you can find and step back out of the way........and I respect that.

I also believe he's smart enough to realize when, quite possibly he's made a mistake....and not blurt it out all over the news.

I think we'll have a new coach the next time we play the horns.

Because Jaguars is our mantra  Wallbash

He's still new to this. And he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to publicly start calling out people or talking about rolling heads.

He's going to leave the Gus decision up to Dave I think. If Dave sticks with him, they will both be given a season or two more.

If Dave decides to cut Gus loose, Dave likely gives himself 3-4 more years.

Anyone expecting Shad to come out and say "I'm gonna fire Dave if he doesn't fire Gus"......

well...I feel sorry for you.

Last year we got the brakes beat off us by Kirk Cousins.

2013 was also his first ever as a GM. Also was a generally weak draft.

2014 seems to be so good it makes up for any bad picks from 2013

2015 we need to see but looks to be solid, at least

How are people finding a way to complain about Dave Caldwell? Because Joker isn't All-Pro? (He is playing much better than getting credit for, only allowing one sack on the year, whereas Beadles has given up 5) Also, Bortles isn't Brady so people complain, but the kid is playing pretty damned good for 19 starts. And Fowler got hurt, and people wanted Cooper, get over it.... do you not see how BAD we needed that pass rusher?

1-15. Gus stays. Record won't matter. Khan has been fed the process [BLEEP].

So 2013 being a weak class is the excuse now.

It is funny. You name great players from the draft, and the common response is "hindsight is 20 20". You can't win......

Now, I am not saying Caldwell's past 2 drafts have been bad, but the coaches are immediately developing bad habits in them that might not be reversible.

Also, Caldwell had about 15 years of scouting across multiple teams before he joined us, so its not like they just found some pimple faced kid off the streets to be our GM. His first draft was absolutely terrible. There is no denying that.

Its an excuse for every team in the first round who didn't draft Ansah or Richardson. That draft was garbage sans a couple of players.

Quote:Lol get a higher draft pick so in return they can trade back and get a "bevy" of picks. Yeah the jags are really experts in that area.

Have we been in that position yet? Imagine what could have happened had we'd been picking 2nd overall instead of 3rd overall last year. We could have raped Chip Kelly for Mariota.

Quote:Media fluff. Move on. All of you who are taking this to heart need to watch the news and owners more often. Shad WOULD BE UNPROFESSIONAL if he told the media that Gus is on the hot seat. It would HURT our chances at better coaches because they'll see an owner who will sell them out mid-season to the media.

Please, If any of you have brains, Let that sink in. Bradley will get fired if he doesn't pick it up. Firing a coach mid-season doesn't turn any team around or send them destined for playoffs. Its never worked. And I don't want to hear "Lets see what we have in marone". He isn't a good head coach either. "But what about Cambell and miami?" Please. They still won't be anywhere near the playoffs. One game doesn't turn around a team.
Why do all the people who want Gus here for the rest of the year, think that the "Fire Gus" crowd has playoff expectations under Marrone?

I want Gus gone because I want the rest of the Jaguars staff to see that if you don't do the job you were hired to do, we're not going to sit around and wait for 5 years for you to get to work.  Show everyone that we're serious about winning in Jacksonville and we wont put up with incompetence.  Firing a coach often lights a fire under players and the rest of the staff.  If it doesn't, dump their sorry rear ends at the end of the season in a fire sale and get some players and staff who have passion and heart for once.

bullcrap excuse.  If the draft really was crap minus a couple of players, if we had evaluated the talent correctly, we would have gotten a different maker seeing as we picked 2nd.  I'm not going to rip them for the Joeckel pick because basically every other team whiffed, but using a poor talent draft as an excuse is just not acceptable.  We missed on talent evaluation.  Just because every other team did (minus a few) doesn't mean that it's ok...we still missed!

One of these years.............

But there are no QBs like that this year. People only make trades like that for QBs

Honestly, worst owner in NFL. Nice guy, loves fans, cares about London and team's revenue......doesn't have a CLUE about winning. Gus Bradley will NEVER lead the Jags anywhere. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a businessman to see that. He's made our defense WORSE and he's a defensive specialist. He has nothing to do with the offense improving Shad!

What's to say Bill O'Brien doesn't bend over backwards to draft Hackenburg?
