Quote:Is it wrong to have a Burger King at 8am following a 12 hour night shift.. I say no but my colleague says yes..

When I'm on nights, 8am is essentially my night time, right?

What was their suggestion?

To me it would be weird to eat breakfast in that scenario.

Both wrong, yes it is fine to eat after working a 12 hour night shift (of any healthy substance) but that is where you are wrong...

Nobody should eat Burger King, that food is not only nasty tasting but it is also really unhealthy.

I have been working third shift recently, and I can relate to you.  Many of your friends and family probably don't understand why you can't simply switch to their schedule on the weekends and revert back to your night shift on Sunday or whatever day you start back up.  They don't understand that you too want to stay up when you first get home from work instead of going straight to bed as they assume.  Do they get home from working 9am to 5pm and go straight to bed?

No, if you did that and woke up around 3pm or 4pm and then stayed up until 8am you would be too exhausted to even drive home.

You don't however want to revert to bad eating habits simply because you are working the graveyard shift.  I would suggest buying healthy fresh vegtables, and fruits & bring them to snack during your shift.  Have a healthy protein meal such as smoked wild salmon with pecans or goat cheese.   Mix it up so that it doesnt become boring because your taste buds want healthy but they also want tasty, you can do both.

People crave crack, heroin, but I wouldn't encourage it.

Well I would hope not, but we are talking about a burger here...not an eight ball.

their suggestion was to have a full English traditional breakfast, for me, however, although it was 8am, it wasn't breakfast time..

Not that I feel a huge need to defend myself, but I'm 5'11" & 154lbs, I do 5 mile runs 4 times per week..

This month though so far, I've done 70 hours overtime, on top of my normal shifts without many rest days...

In this situation I was more interested in going for a Burger King than going home for a carrot stick... You'll be pleased that I have now jumped back on the wagon and had my usual granola with natural yogurt for breakfast today..

154lbs?!? You should eat Burger King twice a day then!

Also, good to see I'm not the only person that will admit to eating yogurt on this board.

I'm only an avid runner if I'm being chased by a serial killer with a knife or a clown...and I might just take my chances with sticking around to fight off the serial killer!

While your recommendation sounds wonderful, I think I'll just stick to drinking heavily and fulfilling my cravings with an extensive amount of deep fried buffalo wings done crispy and wet.
