I can't honestly say I'm 'outraged' by this psycho babble from lewis or gus. The fans are paying their money to see winning football. Its been around eight years now since we've seen that from the Jags, and based on what gus has been preaching and what lewis has spewed out now... it doesn't sound like winning football is just around the corner for this franchise; that is, unless the powers that be decides to do something about it.

 

I guess I've just gotten to the point where I'm neither shocked or angered by the losing ways of this franchise. I've gotten to where I don't even usually watch the whole game on tv; it's just not worth wasting the time doing so when I could be watching re-runs of 'I love Lucy' and enjoy it more.

It obviously didn't help at all.  We've accepted losing as a culture.  We lose?  Oh well *shrugs shoulders*.  At least our process is sound.  This is a results oriented league.  Process doesn't matter at all if it can't get results.

I think most people don't have much problem with him calling out fans.  (There's a few.  Some were upset over Blake's kindergarten comment and still are).  The problem is the mentality that he has.  "Gotta trust the process."  That's about the worst mentality you can have.


To Quote Einstein:  "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."


Persistence is great.  You gotta have persistence.  But that doesn't mean you don't change things up.  It doesn't mean you keep at the same process until it works.  It means you keep at it until you find something that does work.  Results DO matter.  Wins DO matter.  If you aren't getting wins in the third year, the process isn't working.  I don't think that's unreasonable, and I don't think fans are unreasonable to be outraged that Lewis said they have to trust the process as if the process that hasn't yielded results has earned that trust.  It's like the Gene Smith Defense Squad.  


In a way it makes sense that this is Gus's mentality.  Trust the process.  Trust the gameplan.  Don't make second half adjustments, trust the process that got you through the first half.

While I don't necessarily mind the message, Lewis is hardly the best person to deliver it. He has certainly not provided stats or leadership which match what he has been taking home in salary. He posted one decent year and a bunch of so so or bad years. I think many fans view him as a guy who has been a constant for the team, but not in any particularly good way. So I get fans who want him to pipe down.
