The Giant Fire Gus & Dave Thread (MERGED)

(This post was last modified: 10-24-2015, 01:57 AM by AP06.)

Gus has 8 wins under his belt as a nfl head coach:

1 in September

1 in October

3 in November

3 in December

11/10/13 Gus beats Mike Munchak who was fired for Whisenhunt in the offseason

11/24/13 defeats Kubiak who was fired within 10 days (actually the head coach for the undefeated broncos atm)

12/1/13 defeats robchudzinski who was fired one month later, dc coordinator pettine took over in the offseason

12/5/13 sweeps the texans and knocks of wade Phillips who was let go in favor of hiring o brien. Phillips joins Kubiak with the Broncos

10/19/14 defeats the Browns and pettine who is the current browns coach on the hot seat

11/30 bortles orchestrates huge comeback against Coughlin and the giants. Inspired win and rally.

12/18/14 beats whisenhunt who is 3-18 as it stands currently

9/20/15 defeats Joe Philbin to reach .500 on the season. Joe is fired 2 weeks later.

So quality wins are against kubiak & coughlin. Pettine and whisenhunt are in the league as head coaches but it looks grim for them to stay in the capacity.

Gus' two wins against quality coaches AND two wins in 6 months of sept/oct is overwhelming evidence gus is far below average as a nfl head coach. Wiz and Pettine are on life support too as head coaches.

He should never get another chance, save as an interim opportunity to coach in this capacity again.

And obviously those coaches were only fired because they lost to Gus, right ice cream gang?

Some people refuse to acknowledge how bad this team was under Gene Smith. Some people are unable to look at NFL history and see that both the Steelers and Patriots endured around 30 years of losing before they became legendary. The Bills lost 4 straight superbowls. The Browns lost their team to a different city and watched them win the superbowl that next season. The Lions have 1 playoff win since 1957. These people expect 3 years to be enough to overcome a decade of horrible drafting. These people refuse to refer to history and reference it towards the future.

Is Gus Bradley the long term future HC of the Jaguars? Probably not. Those that think this team can press the reset button and be an immediate contender are mistaken. Look at what they did to Gabbert; 3 seasons, 3 head coaches, 3 offensive coordinators. Is that what we really wanna do to Bortles? What about that whole "definition of insanity" thing you fools keep going on about?

I know, we're still building. Actually, it is rather obvious that Caldwell keeps stashing our good players on IR for next year, but something got to give here. It's now  year three of the new regime. Look I was expecting a 1-3 start, and that's what we got, but I wasn't expecting a 1-7 start, and quite frankly that appears to be precisely where we're headed. I know it was just a couple little things where this team should be 3-3, but the losing is getting old. At this point securing five more wins is going to be tough as nails, but fail to do as much and I'm convinced Khan will have a riot on his hands if he doesn't fire Gus.

Yea, I remember when Weaver was facing a full blown riot if he didn't fire Tom Coughlin. That's not to say Coughlin and Bradley are the same caliber as far as Head Coaches are concerned, but it does go to show how much rioting fans' opinions are worth.

I disagree with your last sentence.

I would really like to see Gus as HC of the clots, tacks or tinhorns, and there is a chance there will be an opening on one or more of those teams in the near future.

I think that would be a great opportunity for both him and the Jags.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Gus takes the coaches he beats to Baskin Robbins for ice cream after the game to cheer them up in light of their probable firing. Pretty soon when Gus gets the boot he will be the one crying into his sundae all alone. Can't wait!

When people are mad perspective goes out the window. I agree. Just like when they asked the guy they interviewed on 1010xl who talked to Khan, they ask "When have you seen a guy go 8 and 31 and not get fired?" He said "I never have but I've also never seen a team draft so bad for 10 years straight either." I know people wanted Caldwell to get this thing right quickly but you have to realize how bad the team was when he got here. That kind of roster needed time to find the talent.

I always refer people back to the 2012 depth chart. That was the starting point.

Looking back at the quality of the wins... it really shows how terrible of a coaching job Gus has done. I revoke my  "give him till the end of the season" vote. Fire that loser.

It's simple, the defensive scheme isn't working with the players we have. Tweak it if you have to than having to install something new for now. It's like they are still throwing stuff at the wall to see if it still sticks.

Gus never had any head coaching experience before, so we really have to dismiss this first 3 years as on the job training.  When he said the team is "built" what that meant is that was the last year they would tank to try and get a top 3 draft pick.

So in reality, Gus's tenure as head coach doesn't really start until NEXT year, and that means you need to give him at least a 3 years to prove himself.  I expect Khan to give him and Caldwell extensions this offseason.  This is really a 10 year rebuild because no team in the NFL has ever gone from a losing season one year to the playoffs the next.  It's impossible really.

Wins and losses don't matter, you have to trust the process.

The concerning thing about the Jaguars this year isn't that they're losing, it's who they're losing to. If they had faced a schedule of difficult games it would be understandable they'd be 1-6 right now, but the reality of the season is they've played 6 teams that are mediocre on their best days, and the Patriots, who put the worst beating on the team it's ever taken. Anyone saying the Patriots game is meaningless doesn't understand what we saw, when you take a historic beating that means something, and it's that the team is as bad as it's ever been in its history, and this team has had some really bad years recently.

Losing to the panthers in week 1 was bad, they had no legitimate players at WR that day and the Jaguars couldn't step up. Beating the Dolphins, the only team to fire its coach already this season, really shows what the problem has been for the Jaguars, the only team they could beat was the only team they've played that was arguably coached even worse than the Jaguars. The colts game was there for the taking for a team that really has a desire to win, but the Jaguars just don't have a hunger for winning, seems their hunger is for [TIRED JOKE RETREAD] on top of two scoops.

Khan and Caldwell should be going hard after Harbaugh as soon as the season ends. Just hand the guy a blank check.

Sprinkles are for winners. Gus doesnt have to provide them much anyways.

Really moderators... I can't write s p r i n k l e s. Absolutely pathetic. Why not take some of fbt's schtick and do that to him. Replace "bibber" with [UNWARRANTED MODERATOR INSULT] or something. I like how censorship works just one way.

FBT is the worst poster on this message board.  He's allowed to insult people repeatedly, make personal attacks - and yet nothing happens to him because he's an apologist like the other moderators.
