Steve Smith out for the season. It's super sad, but that makes the secondary's job much easier in two weeks.
Quote:JDR seems to have improved as a head coach. Raiders look pretty solid. Was he ever bad as a coach? He was saddled with Leftwich and Garrard at QB having to face up against Peyton Manning every year. It's a shame Shack was so stuck on Leftwich and the Jaguars wouldn't take the Hall of Famer falling into their lap the following year. With Roethlisberger the Jaguars probably spend most of the last decade winning the AFCS with at least one SB win by now.
Quote:Idk, Carr looks better than Bortles to me. He does. I thought Carr might be a good one. Two different qbs with two different developmental time tables. Carr was more pro ready coming in, and Bortles is still a bit raw. Still, I'm happy we have Bortles.

Beat a good team one week, lose 27-0 the next week to the Texans to get eliminated from the playoffs. This Raiders team looks consistent, which means they will probably break their playoff drought.

Quote:It's hard to be consistent when you don't have a QB.Or Reggie Williams, Ernest Wilford, and Matt Jones as your WRs. That is true though. Both Garrard and Leftwich were inconsistent.

Right, he isn't recognized as a great coach, but he's no worse than the parade of clowns that have followed Couglin. The GMs he served with drafted as badly as anyone in the NFL ever has, literally hit absolutely nothing in the first round from 2003 through 2011, by the time JDR was fired most of the talent on the team (which was mostly inherited from Coughlin's drafts) was gone, their careers wasted on a team without the QBing to succeed in the playoffs.
JDR on his worst day >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gus on his best day
SeldomRite, you spoke as if the two are even on the same stratosphere.
Success is a journey, not a destination. Go all out Mighty Jaguars.
Quote:Idk, Carr looks better than Bortles to me. What Bortles are you talking about? The same Bortles that Cincy will drop Dalton for? The Bortles that Belichek will toss Brady for? Oakland, just manages to win. Tampa has winterception. Minnesota has that unpolished short passing Bridgewater. At least we got the best of all those clowns. In tealville.

Quote:What Bortles are you talking about? The same Bortles that Cincy will drop Dalton for? The Bortles that Belichek will toss Brady for? Wait, what???? Quote:Was he ever bad as a coach?Starting in the middle of the 2008 season and carrying on to the end, yes. A few things conspired to change him from a more supportive "players' coach" to a hard-edged disciplinarian. One was mounting losses in a season of extremely high expectations. His new contract that, no doubt, came with a mandate to win and win often probably nudged him in that direction, as did the Jaguars' well-publicized trouble with the law that culminated in Richard Collier's shooting. Whatever the motivation, his abrupt personality shift alienated his veteran leaders (most notably Mike Peterson), and he lost the locker room. If he hadn't been saddled with Gene Smith as his second GM, he might have been able to rebuild and make the team moderately successful again, but long term, the guy was not the answer. Well, we are still looking for that guy. While Oakland, worse than Jags last year, contend for playoffs. As his teams typically do, under normal circumstances.

I rather be that than done by September, and laughing stock.
