The Walking Dead Season 6 (spoiler alert)

Quote:The Morgan flashback is quite possibly my favorite episode in the series. I can't think of another that comes close.

It illustrates pretty much what the entire series is about in a single episode.

You'll have to connect the Dots for me how's it an illustration of the entire show?

Quote:what else could it be? I'm hopping this Morgan flashback ends up with some kind of payoff

Could be a parasite. Nature has shown "zombie" ants and rats. Not sure how or why everyone would be infected though.

Anyways, great episode. Did not like the timing though.

The clear everybody vs. all life is precious philosophies is the heart of the show.  People (not zombies) are the biggest threat in the show, and these are the two types of people in the new world.  Newly found survivors are treated as enemies (clear everybody clan) or as friends worth embracing and protecting (life is precious clan.)  The survival of humanity relies on choosing life over extinction of other lives.

The door metaphor illustrates how every survivor, every living person is being forced to search every door to find their place in this new world.  Some never find it, and die looking.  Those that do, continue to survive.

Those who can put away the past, or at least bring forward only the good the lessons from it have the best chance at a future.

Without humanity, humans will not survive.  It's why Eastman buried and marked the graves of walkers.  To humanize them in their final resting.

It was the final step for Morgan before he began his journey to "civilization" in Terminus... showing he evolved from burning the bodies of the dead, to giving Eastman a respectful death and burial.  His circle was complete.  He was now living and sharing humanity.

.............................................................................................................................................................

Every living person takes the same journey as Morgan.

Some never leave their personal cages through the open door (clear everybody,) and some do (life is precious.)

you should've been on talking dead, that's the best break down I've seen of an episode yet.

I agree. Wonderfully written and acted, and unlike others, I like the timing. Something tells me this will explain Morgan's actions moving forward.

Enjoyed it a lot.  Even though I knew Eastman was going to die it was still rough.  That wolf still has to go though.  Not everyone is redeemable.

He's going to try hard to bring Rick back to this type of thinking and I'm not sure as a viewer of the show that I want Rick to go back. I like Morgan, but I really hope he doesn't become the "preacher" of the life is precious movement.

Rick has been waffling between the two.  Remember, Rick has a "code" (the questions he asks potential prospects.)

I think the struggle is balancing the life is precious philosophy with safety of the individuals (and the larger group as a whole.)

It's kind of getting like a biker gang.  You'll have to prove yourself as a hang around/prospect until you've earned your patch/colors.

It's not about connecting dots I think. It's about the premise of this previous show and how it kind of reflects the situation many are in over the course of the entire series so far.

I am with you, put together well and both Morgan and the other guy really fit well together.

Rick is inherently a good person. He was a cop, so he's used to protecting. The more you watch Rick turn into something that he really isn't, you sense his descent almost into madness. I feel he definitely struggles with the decisions he makes, unlike someone like Carol, who does it and kind of moves on. With all this said, I like the contrast between Rick doing what he needs to do but also seeming to struggle with these decisions. I don't necessarily want "farmer rick" back from the prison as I feels it make the group as a whole week.

The manner in which this show balances what a group of survivors would surely need to do and also show them going through the psychological fall out is pretty brilliant to me. They've handled it really well.

The one thing that always cracks me up is how stealthy the walkers can be while still maintaining there inherently clumsy characteristic. This happens alot when people enter a building and everything seems quite and seemingly out of no where have a herd of walkers appear from behind a door. Sometimes they will avoid this by having people bang on a door to stir up the walkers, but it just seems a little odd to me that a group of walkers can be seemingly dormant and then suddenly just stir into a uproar.

And how does a walker distinguish between living and dead when somebody is moving. obviously they don't just chase movement otherwise they would be chasing each other so it's almost like they inherit an Thermal sight when the virus becomes active.

It seems the walkers go into a hibernation mode when they can't move or are contained. I also think they become more sluggish the older they get. We've seen plenty of times were when one is stuck or immobile come to life when disturbed.

The smells. They can differentiate between dead and alive through smell. One episode the characters essentially dressed up as walkers to mask their smell so they could walk amogst the walkers. I do wonder why they don't use this more often. And also what happens when the walkers nose is chopped off. Does it solely rely on sound and sight and take a bite out of anything? I dunno.

Also seems like their urgency increases exponentially as they get closer to a potential meal.

To me the only explanation for how they sense food is something along the lines of pack mentality coupled with some form of instinct. for example, why would the only way people(at least most of the time in twd) avoid walkers is by staying out of sight and not covering their trail on the smell level. it's almost like when one walker visually sees or hears something they turn and others begin to follow. i know the instance you are talking about with someone dressed up as a walker and mingling with walkers unharmed(i feel like it was carol too) and i think its happen more than once... tbh they should probably use it more often because iirc it has always worked lol. but to me the reason they are not being attacked has to be because they are not behaving out of the ordinary, in terms of not acting like a walker, and generally the way a person can tell if something is not behaving like the rest of the group is by sight and sound and not smell.... kinda funny, but i just remembered zombieland where bill murray dresses up like a zombie and talks about how he played golf and stuff... text book bill murray in an Apocalypse  lol.

I thought, way back when Rick was in the house with Morgan and Duane in the first episode, that they were going with some type of "the zombie retains part of its humanity" when the mom came up and scratched almost inquisitively at the door knob. But they went with the full on "nothing left" routine with TS-19 and then the Milton experiments, so I guess it wasn't to be.

Yep. Morgan's wife kept creeping around 'her' door. They went completely away from that arc on the show.

As far as using zombie guts to mask your scent, yes, they've done that a couple of times. They did it the first season with Rick/Glenn walking in downtown ATL and then I think it started raining? And then Carol again heading to terminus. It's the only thing that works and really, they should be constantly covered in zombie innards IYAM. Smile

Well, you can always walk around with a pair to mask your scent...
