Matt Millers mid season mock

#1

I think Miller is one of the worst wanna be scouts out there but I like this draft.  It is pure BAP imo

Hargreaves in the first with the 4th pick and then goes Ala NT Robinson.  I know its not our top needs but this is how you get better.  We would have our shutdown corner and our NT of the future.  We would still need a pass rusher, safety, and Poz replacement.  In FA we could get one or 2 of those plus the rest of the draft.  I think our D would be much better if this was our draft and say a Bruce Irvin and a Eric Berry or Eric Weddle.  Those are the 2 players I would draft if the draft fell out like this

I'm mixed on Matt.

I admire him for making a career out of being an armchair.  Kind of a younger and lesser Kiper.  He's the kind of guy the TwitterScoutsTM want to be.

And for good reason.  He's contributed to Madden ratings, etc. and I'm sure makes a good living doing what he loves.

But if there's a trait they all have, it's falling in love with a guy.  Everybody does.  Always choose a grain of salt when something they say seems a little out of whack.  So, I'm more intrigued by the outliers they downgrade that everyone has consensus higher, than I do the guys they prop when no one or few others are.

I'd be happy with DT help.  I was worried about Marks coming off injury, but the entire DL has been disappointing as a whole.  Need to keep getting young/better in the trenches.

Saw this earlier too. Hargreaves (or Nkemdiche) with our pick would be like Leo Williams last year. Fine, good player that for many teams would warrant a top draft pick...but other equally talented players at bigger positions of need will be there for the Jags IMO. I'd want Ramsey, Smith, or Jack in this scenario.

If we did take Hargreaves it would almost necessitate pass rusher in the 2nd...and Shaq Lawson is chilling there just begging to be picked.

He can be quite smug on Twitter.

But then, aren't they all from time to time?

It can become a cesspool, and when it does everyone gets soiled.

Twitter can be very hard to filter out the garbage (which is the majority) and still be attentive enough to pick up good information hidden in it all.

I think the Jags will select between Picks 9 and 11 and if such were the case. my selections would be:

Rd 1: Myles Jacks - LB - UCLA

Rd 2: Noah Spence - DE - Eastern Kentucky

One player who I believe will become kinda of a big deal later in the draft process is

Carl Nassib - DE - Penn State

He has something like 14.5 sacks in the Big 10. I have watched several Penn State games on BTN and I think his rise up draft boards will be similar to what happened with J.J. Watt.

So my sleeper Rd 1 pick is Carl Nassib.

I would still pick either Noah Spence or Carl Lawson in Rd 2, because I think pass rushers are in such high demand and the Jags really need a few more that just Dante Fowler Jr.

I don't think I would touch Noah Spence. I am really curious to see where Carl Nassib goes, I have seen him going anywhere from the 1st to the 4th round.

If we are picking in that 8-12 range, I would love to get Hargreaves in the 1st, a LB in the 2nd, and a guy like Carl Nassib in the 3rd.

Initially J.J. Watt was considered a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Few draftnik pundits considered him a Top 10 pick.

The whole reason why Joey Bosa is rated so highly is what he did last year.

This year's Joey Bosa in the Big Ten is Carl Nassib.

So it should not be a shock if Nassib becomes a Top 10 pick in 2016.

Regarding Noah Spence, if you do the research on him, you should see that it appears that he has turned his life around after overcoming his addiction to the drug Ecstasy (dropped in alcoholic drink).

Spence will be taken either late in Rd 1 or early in Rd 2.

The same can most likely be said of Carl Lawson of Auburn.

I like Matt. He gives you reasons why he loves/hates a prospect and why they'd fit.

I'm cool with Hargreaves, would rather go pass rush

I asked this in another thread, sisnt get any replies. I've only sen a couple Bayle games this year. Has anyone seen more who has a pulse on how oakman looks?

I could see vh3/ramsey in rd 1 and then oakman in rd 2, assuming there aren't any major red flags.

Edit: Definitely wrote this intoxicated. Not fixing the typos haha

I'm curious about Oakman. His production doesn't match his measurables in my opinion. But hey, he can be coached

How many NFL players have been successful on defense at that size besides Too Tall Jones over 30 years ago.

There aren't a lot of players his size with talent, thats a bad argument.

I have watched him play several times. He is an intimidating presence. Not really sure how "talented" he actually is.

Oakman just hasn't developed at all. Buckner and Billings have far surpassed him from that dline.

And Nassib...yikes. Subpar athlete, extremely linear, easily overpowered player. No thanks.

I wonder if those wanting Oakman have watched him play.

Read my post and that should answer your question.

I don't remember it that way at all.

Planet Theory.

I remember there were a few of us who wanted to pick him with our selection for that reason.

But I do agree many balked because he was "too big" and a LDE who "wouldn't produce."
