College Football Playoff selections

#1

Tonight at 7:00 on ESPN, the first weekly CFP selections will be released. A 12-member committee (because Pat Haden quit that job; no one will replace him) chooses the Top 25 teams. Do you have any ranking predictions? I am looking forward to reading the list, which probably will keep Ohio State #1.

Not the selection show. It is the release of the initial rankings for the playoffs.

Pretty meaningless at this point imo

it's nothing but advertising for the 4 team tournament. they usually move teams around to try to create controversy and "buzz".  Not interested.

What's the big differnce between this and the AP/Coaches Poll at this point in time,  probably not much.

The fact that there are only 12 voters instead of 61.

I paid no attention to the USA Today poll this season because everyone uses the AP. When the CFP poll is released, that is what will be used everywhere, so now both of the others are meaningless.

Anyone want to take a shot at the top four order?

1. Ohio St.

2. LSU

3. Clemson

4. TCU

Lots of time left and lots will change. Ohio St. was ranked in the mid to low teens in the initial poll last year I'm pretty sure.

Those four are good choices. I wouldn't be surprised if Clemson isn't at 2 or even 1.

Nope, neither would I. I am trying to think a bit like the committee. Try to get in their heads, it's a scary thing really... :woot:

4. Baylor

I could honestly see the top 3 going in any order, but the 4th team is a bit harder to nail down. The homer in me would love to put Clemson at 1, but aside from Notre Dame they haven't really played anyone this season. Ohio State hasn't either, but they are the defending champs and seem to get the benefit of the doubt for that reason. LSU is probably the most deserving of the first seed, not that it really matters right now

I don't understand why most insiders are picking Baylor without injured Seth Russell over TCU with Heisman favorite Travone Boykin. Blowouts start with the quarterback so we can't expect the Bears to keep putting up 60 points with a harder remaining schedule.

KIrk Herbstreit's predictions are:

1. Ohio State

2. Baylor

3. Clemson

4. LSU

Replace Baylor with TCU and that looks good to me.

Yeah, good luck with that! They have a tough job ahead too.  Lots of interesting teams and matchups that could swing things in different directions.

Does anyone really think that Ohio State is the best team in the country?

The selections aren't made on predictions of the future. They're made on the accomplishments up to this point and up to this point Baylor has been more impressive IMO. And honestly does it really matter? Baylor plays TCU so it'll work itself out soon enough

No, but like FSU last season, they'll get the benefit of the doubt as defending champs (which I kinda like). They're undefeated on top of that.

Bama is a little surprising
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

My thing with Alabama is they lost to the best team they have played in Ole Miss. They struggled to beat a fairly mediocre Tennessee team. Why are they at 4?

Because they're SEC. I find it funny that the team that beat the team that beat Alabama (Memphis) isn't even in the top 10. Pleasantly surprised that Clemson is at 1, though with FSU week here, I'm cautiously optimistic
