Gabbert to start!

Yep, he was a total mismatch in Jacksonville. When he arrived in 2011, I thought his biggest problem was coming from a shotgun/spread offense to one that is very conservative. If your best players are running backs and your offensive line's strength is run blocking, which was the case four years ago, you have to draft a quarterback who prefers to take snaps under center and can run from a collapsing pocket. Blaine Gabbert is the opposite of what we needed at the time.

Gabbert has more heart than Kaep even when he's ducking into the fetal position. Kaep quit, Gabbert's just awful and skittish.

I truly hope Gabbert has been able to turn it around and plays lights out for them.

ONE.  Over/under on how many games Gabbert will win as 49ers QB?

For the 49ers, or for the other teams?

My opinion is you are wrong.  It is easy to call Kaep heartless but a lot of people quit on the niners this year.  Recall how many players abruptly retired from the organization this year?  The coaches that quit too.  The FO there has no idea how to run a NFL team . It is plainly obvious that they traded for Gabbert and now starting him.

On paper he was exactly what we needed.

Let's not forget he was rated higher than Luck coming out of high school as a pro-style player.  Just because he ran shotgun/spread in college doesn't mean he wasn't a pro style talent.  Shotgun spread is a description of his college system, not a description of Blaine.

Regardless, Blaine's issue is that the guy on paper and in practice never reaches the playing field on game day.  It's what makes him such a tease and has kept him around this long in the NFL.  The fireworks in practice turn into a pop gun.  Maybe one or two few and far between plays just to keep the hope of something more alive.

Will Blaine be another name on the list of former Jags players that went to other teams and performed well/better?

That's legal in California, but not for NFL players.

Hard to be much worse than he was here, so the odds are definitely in his favor.

Doubt it. Jim Tomsula said he just wants Colin Kaepernick to slow down and :take a step back," which means it is a short-term change. The 49ers want to keep Kap as the starter but think at this point he needs to watch games a different way (on the bench possibly with a headset on his ears) to get better as a quarterback. It is not a common strategy for benching quarterbacks, who often lose their jobs because they were outplayed by the backups while ruled out with injuries. Kap was one of those players who took advantage of a teammate's injury (concussion)  to get a promotion. We should not expect to see a drastic improvement after only one week of fully practicing with the starters but if it goes on a few weeks all 49ers fans are going to start saying "2 for 1" meaning lose with Gabbert, who wears #2 and still sucks, to clinch the top 2016 draft pick, I just think the quarterback switch was a desperation move by Tomsula. Gotta start somewhere and most people blame the quarterback. At 2-6. it is a lost season for the 49ers, so they have nothing to lose Sunday except some healthy players.

If you want to talk about players who do succeed on other teams, watch the Bengals tomorrow (chances are Reggie Nelson will intercept at least one of Andy Dalton's passes) and the Giants, where Rashad Jennings is playing well and starts.

So, the Bengals loan Nelson out to the other team these days?
