College Football Playoff selections

Quote:Wow, that's bold. You think the current rankings will hold to the end of the season? I am with you too, best ones should get in. I don't think ND ends up in. I think Baylor ends up in over ND and their resume will look better (and be undefeated)

I too have no issue with Ohio St. As long as the reigning champ is undefetaed, that doesn't bother me personally. Same rationale last year as FSU.

Notre Dame basically has one game to go to get in though, so there road isn't very tough.

Ohio State isn't out of the woods yet, they have 3 pretty tough games to go.  If they win those 3, they deserve it.

There's a rule written in for the committee that states if a team with no conference affiliation isn't unequivocally one of the top four then they will not be in the playoff. If Baylor wins out, ND is screwed based on this, and I couldn't be happier.

Dont know anything about the rule. If that were to happen with ND, i think you would see them jump ship to the ACC for football asap. That would be hilarious.

Saw that rule for the first time this afternoon. ESPN talked about it in depth. Makes me wonder if it was written in so that they get ND into a conference full time.

Notre Shame would never do that. They would just think, "Oh well, there is always next year." That school is unwilling to consider joining a conference for one minute.

I know this because of what Notre Shame told the Big Ten when the football team was invited about 15 years ago.  I have hated Notre Shame ever since.

Notre Dame still has to play Stanford and at BC, who has a good defense. I think they pick up a loss in one of those. If not, they might sneak in. It might even be good for college football to get a steaming pile of ND in the final 4. I don't much care for Urb, but if his buckeyes were to hang 50 on the Irish in the 1st round, it wouldn't ruin my holiday season. :whistling:

Stanford has a good chance at ND. I am not so sure BC can pull off an upset. The loss at Clemson is going to loom large this week because that means ND needs to win out.

The Buckeyes have not scored 50 points against anyone this year. As long as they win, the scores are irrelevant.

Im sure the same thing woulda been said 10+ years ago if someone told you that they'd be playing part time in one particular conference.

Why not play full time in a particular conference?

Before last week's games, I guessed that would be the final 4. I didn't expect it to come to fruition a week later. I'm sure the rankings will be fluid a bit; however, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same come playoff time.
New signature because HIGH SCORE found the periodic table offensive. Pathetic LOL

Nobody expects the current rankings to be final. The committee knows Stanford can beat Notre Shame, which would shake things up. Iowa can win the BTCG. Baylor can move back into the top four. It is possible the current rankings will be final, but that is very unlikely to happen.

The chance that those rankings will be the same as the final rankings are pretty slim.

I think I remember reading somewhere or hearing that if they went to a conference full time they would lose their TV deal with NBC. I could be wrong about that though.

Yeah, that would be the main reason.  They have an individual deal now where they rake in a ton of money.  If they moved into a conference they would move into a profit sharing type deal where their cut would be shared with smaller markets and it would be decreased.

Pretty soon they are going to have to choose.  Do they want to stay independent and make the money, or join a conference and have a better shot at the playoffs?  If they don't, these questions are going to come up every year.

If they wanted to join the Big Ten, the switch would have had to wait until their TV contract expired. That was what I read about it.
