Underrated TV

#21

Quote:Andrew Lincoln and David Morrrissey of The Walking Dead are Brits, and Lauren Cohan's mother is British.

There is something about British actors effectively mimicking accents from the American south. Lauren Cohan is especially convincing.

I can't do it... I'll just leave it to the actors :-)

The Wire was amazing, I recently saw Carnivale for the first time and loved it, shame there were only 2 seasons.

Mr. Show was great.  It had Bob ODenkirk(Sal from BB)  and David Cross.(Tobius from AD.)

The Eric Andre Show.

The Upright Citizens Brigade was the funniest show of the 90's and nobody knew what it even existed..  they have a lot of it on youtube.  It's Amazing!!

UCB was on at 10.  At 10:30 they had a show called Strangers with Candy.  It was weird.    was about a high school drop out, who boozed, it, and abused it. Then when she was 45 decided to go back to high school and get her life back together.  It was dark, and odd.  But funny, clever, and very original.  The makeup they had on the girl made her look so gross.  And she moves in with her Comatosed Dad, and his new family.  And they hate her.

Baywatch is one of the most underrated shows of all time.  IT had a gripping, dramatic, and exciting storyline in every episode.  The Cast was spectacular, and had so much chemistry, that they we're creating some sort of chemistry equation.  Most people think the show was just about boobs, but it was so much more than that.   Mitch Bucannon was a hero.

Quote:A great recent show is called The 100. I think the target audience, young adults, is the downside. But the action, and plot twists along with pretty decent Sci fi effects make it an absolute must watch. It has 2 seasons kn netflix and I definitely recommend it as your next binge watch because you will get hooked.
I was going to come in and post something about this show as well!! Yes, I very much enjoyed season 1 and 2. season 3 is not back until 2016. Good show!

Morgan is also a Britt.

I actually think Lauren Cohans accent is the least convincing, but fine, but Andrew Lincolns is spot on. I've heard the southern accent is the easiest to mimic out of all american accents.

It's ok. Most Americans who try to mimic the beautiful English accent just use a lot of "cherrio" and "hellloooouu".

The Brits and Americans differ the most on the way they pronounce the "R's and also the "T's". A British T sound like a T where an American T sounds like a D. ie: 'Party' is a great example of the R and T difference.

If you haven't seen the BBC "series" Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, you are missing out. As far as I know, each season is on Netflix but are only 2-3 episodes long. However, each episode is almost two hours.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Carnivale is still one of my favorite TV series.  It was originally slated for a 6 year run over an in-story time frame of about 15 years.  It was one of the first series' HBO was trying after the Sopranos.  The story goes that after the strong premiere (ratings-wise) the powers that be at HBO told Daniel Knauf they were expecting better ratings than the Sopranos.  He said he knew those were totally screwed by unrealistic expectations.  Actually Carnivale was ahead of it's time.  It's complex plot would be right at home alongside shows like Game of Thrones and The Leftovers.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Loved Strangers with Candy. One of the first things I remember Stephen Colbert doing.

To add to the underrated comedy shows, I liked The State on MTV.

The Cockney language is crazy ridiculous to try to read and understand. I'm reading the Call the Midwife series and it's almost headache inducing with the dropped letters and backward words and rhyming. Thankfully they author translated for the readers. I am to understand that there isn't a Cockney 'population' anymore with the destruction of the old tennaments bombed in the Blitz in Poplar and relocation of all the people back in the 50's-60's.

I find the British, Irish and Scottish accents all to be pretty neat. Sometimes hard to understand, but neat. I had an Australian friend in Germany who taught me the words for different things like trainers, jumpers, [BLEEP], boxes, the loo and others I can't remember right now.
