Personally,, I'd take Bortles over Bridgewater any day. I'd take him over Carr as well (even though Carr looks like he's gonna be pretty good also).


Blake's a definite "gamer". His physical attributes (size/ability to run) put him over Carr IMO.

 

I'd personally call this a wash. Carr has looked really good thus far and I can see him only getting better also. The major caveat here is the offensive line disparity. David Carr doesn't get sacked a lot as the result of better line play. As of last week, I think Bortles had been sacked nearly four times as much as Carr had...not sure where that stands now.

I think from a TALENT standpoint, Bortles is miles better than Brunell. He's stronger, faster, stronger arm. He's also taller and meatier. But let's be honest with ourselves, he's not ranked above Brunell just yet. Brunell plays smarter and is more experienced at this point.


However, Brunell didn't have to worry about his blindside and had an amazing defense.

 

 

Brunell actually had an incredibly strong arm. He'd way out bench Bortles in the weight room. He also had a knack for converting 3rd and long and abusing the blitz.

Carr looked bad but he still threw for 300 and 2 TDs. 

 

The dude has 21 TDs and 6 picks. He's the best 2nd year QB so far but let's hope Blake can close that gap and eventually over take him.

Can't wait until Thursday!  Honestly, i'm a little concerned with the way BB played yesterday, i thought he was god awful.  He easily could have had 4 or 5 picks, he got really lucky.  I think it was his worst game of the year, not  sure what was up, be he was off for sure.  I hope he takes a close look at film this week, particularly at his TEs, and stop forcing the ball.  I'm guessing he snaps out of it and goes off.  If we win Thursday, we are firmly in contention.  Gonna enjoy watching the horns get castrated tonight!

No doubt Blake had a terrible game against the ravens (although a 2:1 td/int ratio is not all that bad) Lets looks at whats good and whats bad so far:

-Throws too many ints. Forces balls into windows that are too tight

-Holds onto the ball too long. Fumbles,ints,and sacks have been results of this

-Misses open throws. Every game he seems to miss or not even throw to a wide open target

-Dumb decisions. Just makes stupid mistakes at time

-Partially on the coaches but he throws too much. (nearly 40 times a game)

-Accuracy is still a problem. Around 55% needs to be improved


+Number 2 in the league at plays over 20+ yards

+19 TD/11 INTS. 5 TDs away from breaking the franchise record

+Tough. He takes beating every Sunday and keeps getting up

+Balls. Like the anti-gabbert. He is not afraid to force a play although it does get him in trouble at times

+Over an 80 rating. A huge improvement from last year.

In year 2 most should be very pleased with what he has shown so far. Young Qb's are going to have stinker games but he has had many more good games than bad.

Good read, but some of the top tier QBs are throwing 37-41 attempts a game. It's pretty much normal I suppose. You forgot to mention that he's only 23. If he keeps progressing like he is, I have no doubt he will hit the top tier of Qbs.

He just seems to resort to sandlot/backyard football at times during the game.

 

It's what makes him fun to watch, but it's also where most of his mistakes come from.

 

You just have to take the good with the bad right now, at least until they get a better o-line and unning game around him.

 

I've come to the conclusion that the Jags are winless with any other QB on the roster starting then BB5.

 

Does anyone really think Henne wins any of those 3 games BB5 won for the Jags? Well, other then Ms. Henne.

This.  He's fun to watch because he looks to push the ball down the field and will take chances doing it.  He's got that Favre factor.

Did you take a look at his TDs (4th behind Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Palmer), #3 league in 20+ yard passes, and top 10 in yards.  Not sure what more you can expect out of a second year QB who has to do everything because the line can't protect him or get push to run the ball?

He's doing fine. Anyone worried about Bortles' development simply doesn't know football. He will always be something between Big Ben and Brett Farve, And just some perspective, They've both won championships.
