Meh, I don't think Gus gets too involved with the offensive play calling. And really he shouldn't.

More so on Olson, but at the same time you should at least have an understanding of what your team is doing. The second you see Denard in on the goaline you have to raise a raid flag on the radio. Hey Olson, dude... Your smallest back, former QB is running on the goaline? Where is Yeldon? Maybe Gus gives Olson THAT much freedom, but even if he does someone on the staff has to be asking, why Denard here?

It boggles the mind, this literally just happened a few weeks ago in London against Buffalo, the Jags inexplicably gave the ball to Toby Gerhart 4 times in the redzone. You would think Gus would've had a conversation with Greg Olson about that terrible sequence, but yet they allow a similar situation to happen again. They choose to feature Denard Robinson in the redzone on an offense that ha  Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Julius Thomas, and TJ Yeldon, pure incompetence on the part of Gus and the offensive staff, this is cause for true concern.

 

It seems to me that it is just a stubborness thing. Gus wants to show that this team can produce a rushing TD at the goal line, with a RB, so he continues to force it when the team gets right at the goal line, over and over and over again, even when it is NOT working.

 

The Jags have 1 rushing TD in 10 games now, Yeldons in London, and it was a 28 yd run, not right at the goal line.

 

The TD pass to JT80 from the 5 yd line was great and you see all the teams with good TEs run it all the time at the goal line.

 

It just baffles me why they just keep on trying to run it from the goal line, mostly with someone other then Yeldon, when teams look like that is what they are expecting the Jags to do and are waiting for it.

 

Why don't they either have Bortles roll out or throw a jump ball to AR15 when he is 1 on 1?

 

Heck, instead of actually handing the ball off, why doesn't BB5 just pull it back and roll out to pass or run, whichever the defense calls for?

 

Why why why? BB5 had 19 TDs going into this game and I thought the tacks had a decent run defense. I just don't understand it either.

Poorly coached team. Seriously Bradley must have a video of Khan and Caldwell going at it, that's the only reason I can think he's still in charge.

I don't think it's Gus being stubborn.  I think that's Olson trying to minimize the chance for mistakes when points are almost a sure thing.  My guess is that there was a conversation at half time, and when we got another shot at the end zone, we suddenly rediscovered the TE we spent a truckload of money on to do what he did last night.

Pretty much this. Olson's nuts tighten into raisins at the goal line. He thinks has to get SOME POINTS. He plays ultra conservative. Apparently he doesn't trust his QB to not throw an int. Also, I am not sure if a fade pattern is even in the Jag's playbook, or else Blake cannot throw one, so we never do it. Olson regresses and does the safest run possible that cannot lose yardage. It must be something in the water here, all our OC's nut up in the red zone. 

There is a reason we were called "team field goal" for years.

 

At half time when Bradley was interviewed he mentioned the Red zone and how we must get  TD's. So it was not lost on him this Futility of running from the 2 yard line time after time after time with this weak line.

After half we did indeed Suddenly discover the TE we bought just for this situation.

The sad thing is we will probably forget this lesson within a week. Which is why a lot of people think Gus must go, he doesn't seem to learn from the mistakes, he reverts back to them and his coaches revert as well. But we can hope for the best, hope they put more faith in Blake, and hope the OC calms down a bit inside the 20.
