I Can't Defend Bortles Anymore

Mark also played with good defenses and running games.

Quote:It's a testament to how well Caldwell has built this team that we have 4 wins.

It's an indictment on Bradley that we don't have 7 or more wins...

Jason Myers missing field goals against the Colts cost us a win for sure. That's on Dave.

Mark also cost the team with turnovers in the 1999 playoffs.

Speaking of Mark Brunell, his 4th year in the  league he threw 20 picks.

Guys like you would have thrown him on the scrap heap.

So those who are complaining... Are you wanting Henne? Really?

You would also bench Luck, Brees, Rivers, Eli in recent years?...

I think they are saying it's not too early to look for other options this offseason, which imo is just as stupid.

Don't act like the NFL was a different game like the 70's-80's.

It was. They have major re-emphasis on pass interference calls, defensive holding etc. you don't remember when Manning and the Clots made a stink?

Yeah it sucks watching a team throw it down field and improve whilst breaking franchise records...

Bring in a checkdown Charlie please. I miss us scoring 10 points a game. Will be really successful with our rubbish run game and D.

Bortles is about to throw 30 TD at AGE 23. Anyone saying that is plain ignorant.

All you guys blaming blake have NO brain. He's a 23 year old qb in his second season, with a bad o-line, the worst defense, bad coaching, and a below average run game. The guys has 22 TDS and just under 3000 yards with 5 games left, did you guys talk about that?... HE IS STILL LEARNING... I mean what did you guys expect? Blake to throw 4000 yards, 40 tds and a small amount of picks, and for us to go 11-5... we are already doing better than last year! Be happy! We have a WR play making Duo/ corp, with a great young qb, and promising rookie Rb

Blake already threw twice as many TDS as he did all of last year and more yards than he did all of last year. We won 1 more game than we did all of last year, all of this improvement and 5 more games to go. We are in the last part of our rebuilding. JUST BE PATIENT A LITTLE LONGER, we are almost there. Chill out and jus appreciate great progress, yall expectING Blake to come out like Tom Brady this year sheeesh.

Peyton Manning:

season 1 (28 ints)

Season 2 (16 ints)

Dan Marino:

Season 1 (17 ints)

Season 2 (21 ints)

Brett Farve:

Season 2 (1st full season) (13ints)

Season 3 (2nd full season) (24 ints)

Ben Roethlisberger: (his comparison)

Season 1 (9 ints)

Season 2 (11 ints)

Season 3 (25 ints)

I think you are being kind...If he was tossing loads of picks while playing like a game manager these people may have a point. But he is the franchise

Yes, they made a stink about rules that were already in place.

To act like this is a different era is a silly way to attempt to make a point.  A total reach.

Carry on.  Nonsense.

Why do people insists on bashing the only good QB the franchise had on the roster since Mark?

He's only in his 2nd year (barely since he didnt play his entire rookie year & this year isnt over yet)... behind a bad oline, with young WRs (exception TE Thomas whom was injured almost the entire season).

The Allen Brothers have played fantastic but with Allen Hurns out, they can double team AR15 with safety help, so its good that TE Thomas is getting more in the mix but they really could use Hurns back healthy...

hope he's okay.

This is exactly how women horomones (not actual women to be politically correct) react when you lose like this. As much as I was/am hoping for playoffs I also know the future is bright.

Totally true.

It's important to remember BB5 is not checking down junk.  He's not playing a Teddy Bridgewater type game.  He's playing an aggressive game that get's us big yards and TDs.

Today's INT was not a head-scratching type INT.  It was't a "what were you thinking" INT.  It was a lucky read by Teo, with a heck of an effort to actually make the catch for the pick.

Blake makes us all crazy at times during the game, but the kid is still raw at 22years old,and has nearly 3k yards and 22 TDs after 11 games. He'll probably finish the year with 4k and 30,or so.

Funny thing is nobody would suggest benching Brees or Rivers the last few years and they have struggled with turnovers too. Even great experienced qbs will turn it over when they throw every down chasing the game.

Quote:I don't hate Bortles. I hope he turns it around. But until then, I can't really stick up for him without shutting off logic.
My question is what obligation does the team have to not put everything on his shoulders?

Why won't the team provide him with a running game?  They spent a 2nd round pick on Yeldon.  Why not use him?

What do you think the effect of not having a running game is having on Bortles?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

It is putting a lot of pressure on him. That is why I haven't given up on Bortles. At the same time, I can't overlook the turnovers. It's hurts this team and makes life harder for an already weak defense
