2016 First Round Pick

(This post was last modified: 12-06-2015, 09:02 AM by HolsterHusto.)

1) Jalen Ramsey DB FSU - Gus gets his big corner. May move to safety eventually.

2) Jonathan Bullard DE UF - Team up Bullard and Fowler again to get to the QB. Would also allow Odrik to see some time at the 3 tech.

3) Jake Butt TE MICH - Good blocker and receiver. Perfect compliment to Julius and another weapon for Blake.

4) Jarrard Davis LB UF - Inject more speed to the LBer core. Always seems to be around the ball.

5) Brandon Shell T USC - Massive T to be groomed behind Parnell

6) Trade for Willie Young or Barkevious Mingo

6) James Conner RB Pitt - Massive RB who would go way higher but hurt his knee and recently diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Dude is a fighter and I have no doubt he will beat it.

7) Mike Matthews C TAMU - If all else fails, draft from the Matthews family line.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I am thinking that Jarrad Davis is taken in Rd 2 and certainly no later than Rd 3. I also think James Conner will go late Rd 3 or early Rd 4, but his combine with give us some hint of his ceiling.

James Conner is coming off of a knee injury and was just diagnosed with Hopkins lymphoma, he isn't going that high.

Also I think Davis is going to depend on how he tests this offseason. Right now, I've seen him with a 3-5 round grade. Most people seem to be higher on Antonio Morrison for whatever reason. He is a guy I would LOVE on this team.

Jarrad Davis announced he is staying for his senior year.

Thats huge for Florida, he might be the best LB to come out next year along with Tabor being the best corner

If we pick in the top 6... We have to trade up for Bosa. Doesn't matter to me though, I'm an optimist. I'll convince myself that the best player in the draft was drafted by us.

Right now the Jags are selecting 4th in Rd 1 but there is a bunch of teams at 4-10 so the Jags drop to the pick in Rd 2.

Free Agents - The Jags may have as much as 90 Mil to spend in Free Agency and it is unlikely they can spend it all, but let's try

1. Alex Mack - C - Browns - 6'4" 311 - 31 in 2016 - 8.5 Mil/Yr

I am now convinced that the Jags will hot and heavy to sign Alex Mack and gain some push in the middle of the offensive line. The running game has suffered because Linder got hurt and Wiz is just not a snow plow that can clear a running lane.

2. Kelechi Osemele - OLG - Ravens - 6'5" 330 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - 8 Mil/Yr

The second part of the offensive line upgrade is to trade Zane Beadles for a Rd 6 pick and replace him with Osemele who is a snow plough and teamed with Mack should open up the middle of the line and jumpstart the running game.

3. Tashaun Gipson - FS - Browns - 5'11" 205 Lbs  - 26 in 2016 - 7 Mil/Yr

Gipson wants to be paid like one of the top Safeties in the league and the Browns don't seem to believe he is a top safety. I think the Jags pick their 2nd Brownie and put him in centerfield to help the deep secondary - usually a ballhawk for the interceptions. Not a big FS,

2015 Stats - 9 Games: 30 TT - 2 Ints - 4 PD

4. Trumaine Johnson - CB - Rams - 6'2" 208 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - 9 Mil/Yr

Jags bag their No. 1 CB with size, speed and a nose for the ball.

2015 Stats - 10 Games: 43 TT - 4 Ints - 15 PD

5. Olivier Vernon - DE (Leo) - Dolphins - 6'2" 275 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - 7 Mil/Yr

Jags need more than just Dante Fowler Jr and Vernon is the best option available plus he is young with a 11 sack season in 2012

2015 Stats: 12 Games: 40 TT - 6.5 Sacks

6. Mike Daniels - DT - Packers - 6'0" 310 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - 8 Mil/Yr

Very disruptive 3 Tech that on passing downs can team with SenDerrick Marks to provide the push up the middle to send the QB into the arms of Vernon or Fowler.

2015 Stats - 12 Games: 41 TT - 4 Sacks

7. Dwayne Allen - TE - Colts - 6'3" 265 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - 4 Mil/Yr

Allen replaces Marcedes Lewis as the inline blocking TE that can be the No. 2 TE

2015 Stats - 9 Games - 13 Rec - 1 TD

8. Matt Forte - RB - Bears - 6'2" 218 Lbs - 31 in 2016 - 4 MIl/Yr

Jags replace Gerhart with Forte to be the main backup to T.J. Yeldon - similar types of runners - effective catching passes out of the backfield

2015 Stats: - 9 Games: 676 Yds - 3 TDs

9. Bobbie Massie - OT - Cardinals - 6'6" 316 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - 2 Mil/Yr

Quality backup OT that could be the 3rd OT in short yardage situations. Strong in run blocking - adequate in pass protection

Draft:

Rd 1(4): Vernon Hargreaves - CB - Florida - 5'11" 199 Lbs

2015 Stats: 12 Games - 31 TT - 4 Ints - 4 PD

Hargreaves becomes the 4th CB and valuable depth at all three CB spots

Rd 2(41): Sua Cravens - SS - USC - 6'1" 225 Lbs

2015 Stats - 13 Games - 78 TT - 14.5 TFL - 5.5 Sacks

Could play the Otto/SLB spot or perhaps the SS replacing Cyprien giving the Jags their Troy Polamola. Could be the ILB in pass situations

Rd 3(72): Kendell Beckwith - ILB - LSU - 6'2" 252 Lbs

2015 Stats - 11 Games: 76 TT - 6 TFL - 1 Sack

Replaces Poz - it may be time to put Poz out to pasture

Rd 4(107) Kyler Fackrell - Otto/SLB - Utah State - 6'5" 250 lbs

2015 Stats - 12 Games: 76 TT - 13.5 TFL - 4 Sacks - 5 Fumble Recoveries

Pass rusher and Otto LBer on 1st and 2nd down.

Rd 5(142) Aaron Green - RB - TCU - 5'11" 205 Lbs

2015 Stats - 12 Games: 1215 Rushing Yds - 10 TD - 14 catches - 1 TD

Change of pace RB with great speed and quick cut ability

Rd 6(177): Trae Elston - FS - Ole MIss - 5'11" 195 Lbs

2015 Stats - 12 Games: 66 TT - 4.5 TFL - 4 Ints

Unsung ballhawk in Rebel secondary - a little small but good range and sure tackler - backup FS

Rd 6(185): (Trade of Zane Beadles): Victor Ochi - DE (Leo) - Stony Brook College - 6'2" 255 Lbs

2015 Stats - 10 Games: 47 TT - 16.5 TFL - 13 Sacks

Small school standout that can really rush the passer - small DE - perfect Leo candidate

Rd 6(192): (Trade of Scobey): Ejiro Ederaine - OLB - Fresno State - 6'3" 234 Lbs

2015 Stats: 12 Games: 99 TT - 16.5 TFL - 9 Sacks - 2 Ints

Backup WLB and special teams player

Rd 7(212): Deiondre Hall - CB - Northern Iown - 6'1" 190 Lbs

2015 Stats - 13 Games - 77 TT - 5.5 TFL 6 Ints 4 PD

Backup CB to compete with Gratz and McCray

Cann and Linder will be our guards next year

Mack ok but the rest need to be Defense. I mean all FA and Draft picks

By the way new coach at every position on defense except DL

We missed on all of our secondary players we picked in 2013. Can them all. Keep Colvin,Cyp and House. Cyp should be a special teams guy only.

Deiondre Hall was on TV yesterday playing for Northern Iowa who lost to North Dakota State

He plays Free safety now and not CB

Was he the player with the FCS leading pass breakups? Or was that someone else?

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Free Agency:

Sign one of Eric Berry, Tashaun Gipson, or Eric Weddle (in that order of preference)

Sign either Kelechi Osemele (move Cann to C) or Alex Mack

Sign Nick Perry - former first round pick who has struggled in GB. Will go back to put his hand in the dirt like he did in college

Draft:

1) Vernon Hargreaves CB UF - Will give the defense another playmaker, which we desperately need. Reminds me a lot of Brent Grimes in Miami. Would also consider Jalen Ramsey if he fell to us.

2) Jonathan Bullard DL UF - Double dip with Florida players and will reunite with Fowler to help fix the pass rush

3) Jake Butt TE MICH - Our number 2 TE, that gives Blake another weapon and security valve

4) Joe Schobert LB WIS - Do yourself a favor and watch his video against Iowa. Needs to add a little weight, but he will be a pass rushing monster and will eventually take over at OTTO

5) Brandon Shell T USC - Big RT to groom behind Parnell

6) Ka'imi Fairbuirn K UCLA - Take a flyer on a K to fix our kicking woes

6) Devon Johnson RB MAR - Big running back to compete with Jonas Gray for short yardage situations. Can also play some FB.

7) Mike Matthews C TAMU - Smaller C but comes from the Matthews bloodline

QB - Bortles, Henne

RB - Yeldon, Robinson, Gray, Johnson, Grant

WR - Robinson, Walters, Sterling

WR - Hurns, Lee, Greene

TE - Thomas, Harbor, Koyak

TE - Butt, Jacobs

LT - Joeckel, Wells

LG - Cann, Shatley

C - Mack/Osemele, Matthews

RG - Linder, Bowanko

RT - Parnell, Shell

LEO - Fowler, Perry, Davis, Smith

DT - Marks/Odrik, Alualu, Bennett

NT - Miller, Jones

DE - Odrik/Bullard

WLB - Smith, Bartu

MLB - Poz, Tripp

OTTO - Skuta/Schobert

CB - House, McCray/Marshall

FS - Berry/Gipson/Weddle, Sample, Brown

SS - Cyprien, Evans

CB - Hargreaves, Colvin

K - Fairbuirn

P - Anger

LS- Tinker

Your move, Stigma.

I really like matakevich from Temple btw. I'm not sure where his best value is, I see him being projected anywhere 2nd-4th but I'd take him in the 3rd or 4th.

He is always around the ball and is a really smart, high motor guy.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Not going to get ahead of myself, so I have the Jags finishing with a 6-10 record in this mock draft, selecting 12th in each round.

FREE AGENCY:

1. Trumaine Johnson - CB - Rams - 6'2" 208 Lbs- 26 in 2016 - $10 Mil/Yr

True No. 1 CB in Bradley Defense - ball hawk with 6 Ints - excelled last night against the Bucs Offense

2. Kelechi Osemele - OLG - Ravens - 6'5" 330 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - $8 Mil/Yr

Road grader next to Joeckel so upgrade the running game. Allows the Jags to release Zane Beadles

3. Alex Mack - C - Browns - 6'4" 311 lbs - 31 in 2016 - $8.5 Mil/Yr

Jags are determined to upgrade the middle of the Oline and signing Mack and allowing Wiz to leave is a big step. Osemele - Mack - Linder offers a powerful middle of the OLine and should propel Yeldon to top 1200 yards rushing per season

4. Tashaun Gipson - FS - Browns - 5'11" 205 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - $7.5 Mil/Yr

Jags grab their centerfielder at the FS spot. Concerns over his ability to stay on the field keep his pricetag lower than he wants, so contract has playing time incentives.

5. Vernon Olivier - DE - Dolphins - 6'2" 275 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - $7.5 Mil/Yr

The Jags need more pass rushing DEs. The Dolphins may want to keep him but the Jags outbid for his services. Olivier in Miami is overworked while in Jville, he will be part of a rotation and with incentives for sacks, Olivier will thrive in this system and push Fowler to become all that he can be.

6. Nigel Bradham - OLB - Bills - 6'2" 241 Lbs - 27 in 2016 - $3.5 Mil/Yr

The NFL has become more of a passing league and as such OLB must be faster and be able to excel in pass coverage as well as stop the run. Bradham is a slightly slower version of Telvin Smith and should be able to man the Otto SLB spot, freeing Dan Skuta for more pass rush duties as well as be the backup Otto.

7. Dwayne Allen - TE - Colts - 6'3" 265 Lbs - 26 in 2016 - $3 Mil/Yr

Allen becomes the inline blocker replacing Marcedes Lewis in this offense.

Total = $48 Mil in Free Agent signings ( Jags should have more than $90 Mil available)

DRAFT:

Rd 1(12): Emmanuel Ogbah - DE - Oklahoma State - 6'4" 275 Lbs

Jags get another premium pass rusher to team with Fowler and Olivier

Rd 2(43): Vernon Butler - DT - Louisiana Tech - 6'3" 316 Lbs

Can play either of the inside DT spots and is a force on the inside.

Rd 3(75): Spencer Drango - OT/OG - Baylor - 6'6" 320 Lbs

Jags gain depth at the OT spot

Rd 4(111): Antonio Morrison - ILB - Florida - 6'1" 229 Lbs

Jags grab their ILB of the future

Rd 5(147): Kevin Byard - SS - Middle Tennessee - 5'11" 226 Lbs

Backup SS that can excel in special team - strong against the run, ball skills for the INT

Rd 6(183): Deiondre Hall - FS - Northern Iowa - 6'1" 190 Lbs

Ball hawk CB/FS that will strengthen the FS spot and can play some CB

Rd 6(195): Victor Ochi - DE - Stony Brook - 6'2" 250 Lbs

Leo DE - small school pass rusher that dominated his level of competition

Rd 7(219): Ejiron Ederaine - OLB - Fresno State - 6'3" 221 Lbs

Undersized OLB with a nose for the ball.
