Taking snaps from under center or not isn't a huge deal unless he has a huge fear of a pass rush in his face like Gabbert.

Even Gabbert was able to handle snaps from under center. It's what happened after that was the problem.

It certainly doesn't hurt. Luck and Wilson both benefit from their ability to pick up a first down with their legs. Scoring drives are kept alive from it and it can keep a LB closer to the line of scrimmage to spy on them, opening up other parts of the field for receivers.

carr is a strict pocket passer just like russell wilson with the right build to withstand hits.

A QB's who runs a great 40 does not necessarily mean he is "very mobile."

of course but we are talking about carr, he only runs when he needs to and is very good at it. he has a nice build to withstand hits if needed. you should watch some of his videos this year, he runs like russell wilson.

I've seen a couple of his games.  While I think he's much better than his older brother, I'm still not as impressed with him as a prospect.  I think he has the potential to have a solid NFL career, but I'd rather have Teddy, Mettenberger or Bortles over Carr, as of right now.

I don't get the Derek Carr love? Bad footwork is a big red flag for me..........

 

Footwork is the easiest thing to fix for a QB. Gabbert even did it.

those qbs are in my top 4 though im hearing chatter that bortles might not declare, and i think mettenberger is a solid first round prospect i see him as a more polished ryan mallett. im only endorsing carr because we are in position to be outside of the top 3 with how "great" we've been playing and our soft remaining schedule, teddy and clowney will be out of reach.  the combine and senior bowl will be huge for carr, it helped ej manuel alot.

If I'm not mistaken, Roethlisberger played in a spread type of Offense while at Miami of Ohio. And there were entire games were all Flacco would do was break the huddle and turn around to take the snap while at Delaware. I don't see it as being anything too difficult to coach.

 

I guess if someone is under the impression that the coaches' job is to actually teach something then it's not that big of a deal.

Footwork is really important. It's definitely the trait with one of the biggest gaps between what scouts value and what a normal fan pays attention to. Besides the coke rumors, Ryan Mallett's unbelievably bad footwork is probably why a player with an arm and body like his fell all the way to pick 74.

The bloodlines, footwork, low YPA (considering other college YPA's) and gimmicky offensive scheme where he doesn't take snaps under Center are all concerns. None of them mean sure doom for Carr, but they give me pause.

ive told you this before, he played in a pro style offense in 2011, he took plenty of snaps under center, then they changed coaches and offensive scheme.  ypa is not really a concern due to the offense hes in. footwork is one thing he definitely needs to improve more on.  not really understanding the bloodline argument, its dumb.

Are there examples of bloodlines not correlating/? sure. No one is saying otherwise....but for people to totally dismiss it is convenient. If the elder brother of Carr was actually uhm...---good--- then it would probably be a safe bet that all the people dismissing bloodlines would then be touting bloodlines in favor of Derek....thats what people around here do.

The bolded is just a nice story to tell leading up to the draft or on a pregame show. I remember some people wanted Casey Matthews as early as the 2nd round...because of bloodlines....so he had to be good.
