McShay's latest Mock Draft
|
Todd McShay recently posted his latest attempt to pick the first 32 players out of the 2016 Draft. It's an ESPN Insider account so it won't do me much good to post a link but he has Jacksonville picking Vernon Hargreaves III, DB with Pick #9. Players who were already drafted at that point were the Usual Suspects of Bosa, Jalen Ramsey, Jaylon Smith, The OT's from Notre Dame and Ole Miss, respectively, Nkemdiche, Paxton Lynch and Jared Goff.
Players still available were as follows:
Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss Rebels*
Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama Crimson Tide
DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon Ducks
Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State Spartans*
Myles Jack, LB, UCLA*
Tre'Davious White, CB, LSU Tigers*
Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State Buckeyes*
Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson Tigers*
Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State Buckeyes
A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama Crimson Tide*
Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville Cardinals
Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech*
Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia Bulldogs* Thoughts and/or impressions? Things you'd do differently?

Quote:I'm cool with VH3, but I'd have to think real hard about Myles Jack, Same. VH3 worries me with his size. Is he going to be able to body up to Nuke Hopkins? Not saying that he can't, but it does feel like Jack is a bit of the "safer" pick here.

Yeah, Hargreaves looks really skinny so their is no way he comes in weighing the 190-200 lbs that I have seen him listed at. I would be totally fine with Hargreaves as he can corner and does give you some playmaking but man, if Jack is healthy you have to look at him. Myles Jack's game is raw but he has the potential to be one of, if not, the best linebacker in the game. Jack and Smith would be drool-worthy in coverage.
Jack isn't a Mike, he's way too light.

Yeah, the majority of places I look have him listed at 245, but even if he is at 235, I doubt he would have trouble gaining a few pounds. Poz is listed at 240, Armbrister at 235, and Tripp at 244. Jack could easily handle playing MLB.
Honestly I'd be alright with the pick, plenty of options currently. I know by the time the draft rolls around I'll have narrowed my personal picks down to one or two options.
I would be okay with Hargreaves under those circumstances, and the pick would be consistent with what Caldwell has done with his first round picks-which is namely address the premium positions of LT, QB, Pass Rushing DE. The only premium position left to address would be cover CB.
The Gators didn't shy away from putting him in press coverage, and he held up pretty well in the SEC. There ARE, however, players I'd rather have before him, most notably Jaylon Smith and Jalen Ramsey. I'd like to see more of Ogbah, too. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

He seems to have rubbed a few of these draftniks the wrong way, because I don't see anyone even having him in the Top 20.

Miles Jack is going to be a tackling machine. Any LB corps with Jack and T Smith will be incredible. Has Hargraves ever made a tackle?

I just found out that Jack didn't tear his ACL but another knee injury. So, not as bad!

Quote:I tend to agree with Jags02 in that this defense seems to require an elite Leo and Otto to be effective Not really sure Smith or Jack are OTTOs. Both would be better suited playing inside.
Quote:Who would you like to see starting at Otto next year? I've been thinking about this for awhile. There really doesnt seem to be any guys that I would take high that would really fit the OTTO spot. Smith and Jack could but I think you are wasting their talent a bit as they both are better coverage guys than pass rushers. |
