Jaguars' All Time Greatest Play

#21

I have to agree with the OP on this one. How can anything be better than a completed Hail Mary? It was screwed not being named Never Say Never Moment of the Year. I   even gave it a name - Hail Michael, because Mike Thomas was in the perfect spot to catch a deflected pass.

Do you guys have a problem with game-ending field goals? Surely you all love the 59-yard FG by Josh Scobee! That play was one of the top five, not just because of the length but also because it prevented overtime against the Colts at home and Jaxson de Ville caught the ball. That week everyone expected a blowout loss to the Colts so it was more special than all of the other game winners he attempted.

Real talk, JW:

You have had a few really awesome posts around here lately.

Nice post, well articulated and good job.

Mine is the Garrard 4th down run. The sound of 70k people getting silenced is something special

The blocked FG with return for TD at home against the Steelers with Bill Cowher trying to hit our player. Classic.

I liked Clyde's INT for a touchdown against Kelly in 1996.

yeah that was a fantastic moment in jaguars history for me.  i was at the game, with the entire section going crazy at me and the david just shut the crowd up with that play. 4th and 2 if i remember correctly.

Garrard 4th down run for me too.

I've only seen 2 other instances of a crowd being silenced like that in all my sports watching days:

1. Stanford over USC in USC with the Luck Td pass - stunned crowd , grown men crying in the stands etc etc

2. Gilbert Arenas Game winner vs the Rockets - I swear to this day i heard a cellphone going off through the TV it was so quiet.

Quote:Jimmy Smith stretching out for a touchdown in Denver in 1996 in the playoffs.

That's it.   Brunell throws a perfect fade to Jimmy Smith for a TD which iced the game and sent the Jags to the AFC Championship Game, after being 4-7 at one point in the season.

Great choice. I remember watching that game and at that point in the game, we were being dominated. And then Clyde stuck up that big hand and snatched it out of the air and ran it back.

'RAN it back' is kind of a relative term. Smile

I was there for the Hail Michael.  For the 59-yarder against the clots I was on work travel so I was stuck sitting in a hotel room watching it online.  My son, who was sitting in my season ticket seat, texted me that we had won before the delay online could stream it.  Man I wish I could have been there to see it, however, I was told later by others who sit around our seats that my son had a blast, so I was happy about that.

Quote:Boselli running bakward down the field upon a long gain gesturing to Jason Taylor that the play will continue on the other end of the field. We Spanked the dolphins 62-7 sending Marino and Jimmy Johnson into retirement...

NH3...

You're mixing up two different games.   The one where Boselli ran backwards gesturing to Jason Taylor was a Monday Night game.

Quote:My personal favorite that I was able to witness live was Fred Taylor running over Mike Doss to put the game away in 2003 against the Colts. Fred came out and said that he was going to punish Doss for disrespecting him previously and did just that. Fred looking back as he ran to the end zone to win the game was priceless. The Jags were 1-7 at the time and no one gave them a chance against the Colts, but they came back in the second half and won the game........good times for sure!!

Oh, God, yes, I forgot that one.   Fred said he was going to punish him and he absolutely trucked him on the way to the game winning TD, looking back at him as he went into the end zone.

I remember it looked like he was  running in a foot of water.   I thought he would never get to the end  zone.

Okay, this is the greatest play I ever saw live in the stadium.   Go to the 2:07 mark.   Fred Taylor, 70 yard game winning TD.

Know what the funny thing about that Taylor run to me was? That formation can still be seen today. Shotgun, one RB, Two split to the right, One split to the Left, one Tight End.

Not to take anything away from Fred though, that was just an incredible play by him.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

The Cowher "swing" at a player running down the sideline was a hat tip to Woody Hayes in the Gator Bowl.  He said so after the game.  He was never going to tackle Hudson.

Clyde Simmons Interception was my favorite as well.  I loved that game.
