Playoff scenarios

Quote:I just said games that affect the playoff seeds are in no way meaningless. So it makes no sense to say all NFC games are meaningless in the last two weeks.

if you already know who's in,no one really cares on a mass level what their seed is. You want to give as many fans as much hope as possible.

no one cares if Seattle is a 5th or 6th seed if they cant be eliminated, even if they lose for two weeks

It is not about who we expect to get in, but whether the teams have clinched spots or not. And yes, people do care which seeds wild card teams are because that determines who plays against which division winners.

you are redundantly saying what I said while missing the point constantly.

pay attention; if Seattle and KC win this week, less teams have any chance of making the playoffs. Thats boring. If you already know who's in and all your watching is seed change the last 2 weeks, that is also boring.

the nfl wont let Seattle and KC win other wise they will lose viewers for 2 weeks and money etc

No way Seattle loses to Cleveland

Because you are missing the point. The only definition of a "meaningless game" is a game that has no effect on playoff teams or seeding.  It has nothing to do with whether fans want to watch the games or not. I think your definition of meaningless is incorrect.

Also, there is no reason to believe the NFL wants Cleveland to beat Seattle.

The Panthers only need a win and a Cardinals loss to clinch the #1 seed tomorrow. The Cardinals play at Philadelphia. so they probably will not get it this week.

Although most predict the Cardinals should beat Philly tomorrow (rightly so), Arizona typically does not play as well when traveling far to the east coast.

Earlier this season, they had to face Pittsburgh in Heinz Field. They did not look good. The Steelers handled them fairly easy.

That is not to say they don't win sometimes in the East. But, they usually don't look as "powerful" on this side of the country.

The fact is a seed change game is is infinitely less important than game that determines getting in the playoffs at all.

It has everything to do with what fans want to watch. This is tv entertainment.

You know you'll be less interested if the Jaguars aren't eligible in week 17.

Quote:Denver Broncos

AFC West title: Win and Chiefs loss

Playoff spot: Win

Interesting tidbit about the Broncos and the playoffs:

The Broncos can finish 11-5 and MISS the playoffs this year.

I listen to the "Rich Eisen Show" regularly in my car. According to those guys, if the Broncos lose 2 of their last 3 games (making them 11-5), and the Chiefs, Steelers, and Jets finish 11-5, Denver will not be in the playoffs.

Of course that would mean the Chiefs win the AFCW.

I'm not exactly sure how they came up with all that scenario. But, I'm sure they have it correctly. They mentioned Denver's possibility of missing the playoffs about a hundred times during the show.

Denver's next two games are against Pitt and Cincy. Denver has to get one of those victories. Most likely they can beat Cincy, but you never know with the Bengals. They may show up and look terrific, who knows?

You are not interested in playoff seeding, but that does not make it any less important  It is an indisputable, proven fact that playoff seeding is extremely important. If you don't believe that, you are not a true NFL fan.

This happened to the Patriots in 2008. They were unable to figure out Miami's wildcat offense both times, so despite an 11-5 record, New England missed the playoffs via HTH tiebreaker.

The formula is easy: Kansas City is only two games behind Denver with three games left.

Yup. But I think that the Eisen Show guys were also taking it a step further with Wildcard implications. 11-5 normally is good enough to secure a Wildcard. But it's possible that the Steelers and Jets also have 11-5 records and that would knock out Denver if it came down to that.

Of course, alot depends on this week's game Broncos vs Steelers. Obviously, if Denver wins, Pittsburgh cannot finish with anything better than 10-6, and Denver would hold the head-to-head on them.

Todd Bowles said the Jets must win out to get in. They need that and a couple Steelers losses. Whichever AFCW team does not win the division, the other surely will be a wild card unless Pittsburgh beats Denver.

they want to win out for their own destiny but the fact is they dont have to depending on who wins and loses.

they can lose to Dallas as long as KC loses sunday. They can beat Patriots and depending on other teams, they can still get in

I think that's right. I don't believe the Jets will win out, especially since they have to play the Patriots and at Buffalo. But you never know. I'd be surprised if they do win out.

LOL They almost beat New England in late October. Someone posted that week they play tough against their division rivals. Of course, I am picking the Patriots anyway. The Bills game will be much easier.

They played the Patriots tough, true. I'd like to see them beat the Patriots, but I don't think they will.

@Buffalo will be tough for them too IMO. That was a close game the last time they played in New Jersey. Buffalo (Rex Ryan) would probably love nothing more than to spoil the Jets playoff hopes.

LOL Of course, because he used to coach the Jets. I am convinced the only reason New York lost that game was stupid play calling with 3 minutes left. The Bills punted all night, but for some reason Todd Bowles said go for it instead of kick a field goal. What was the purpose of that? Also, the Bills lost at New England by committing suicide - penalties at bad times, turnovers, and a missed field goal in the first half. New York clearly is the better team.
