I am not meaning to harp on 02 or anyone specifically but how can anyone defend this staff?

Let's keep this thread about the positives. We can rightly bash the defense and head coach in many other threads.


The game was a thriller, that's for sure. The team didn't lose their cool after that int to end the game. A second half melt down did not occur, so that was a good thing.


The offense overall is fun to watch.

This is the improvement I was looking for this year.  I figured we could still have a talent deficit and we do at critical spots.

I don't understand the "change for the sake of change" argument in regards to Bradley. Maybe you can elaborate why some think that?


Let me articulate my observation/stance on Bradley. Through nearly 3 seasons of observation, it seems clear to me that Bradley lacks the leadership necessary to be a good head coach. He is a VERY NICE guy and understand Xs and Os to some degree. However, it is a fact that not everyone can be or will be a successful head coach. The one thing we do know is that he is "positive." That's great. However, his approach has led to the Jags under-performing in almost every game for the talent level they have. Is he the sole source of their woes? Not at all. But at the end of the day, if you are Caldwell or Khan, you have to ask yourself, can this coach lead this franchise to a Super Bowl and win it (i.e. can he squeeze the most out of the roster the GM gets him)? The answer for me is clearly no.


Has there been some success that we should credit to him? Probably so. However, his "body of work" overall to me shows that he is not NFL HC caliber.


So, I know myself (and I would believe most others) do not want a HC change just for the sake of change. It is because season after season and week after week, there is continual evidence that Bradley is not a good HC. It's that simple.

Yes. I get it, I am not 100% behind gus bit I wanted to stay positive after such a loss that hurts a bit more seeing your playoff hopes dwindle. What I am saying is his Guus play hard and we are seeing results. If we can gus all I'm saying is it can be worse. Odds are you aren't hiring the next Bill Bellicheck(sp) and they guys love gus. I think as a coach he is progressing, we see it on his game management the last few weeks. I just trying to keep it positive, trust me, I know gus has been far from even average as far as w-l record or even game management goes but he himself is even getting better. He has 1 more year to prove it.

I agree about Poz. He is a fan favorite and I understand why (great tackler, workhorse effort guy).  He's played well at times this season but the reality is he's an average player and his lack of speed has really started to show with age.  I was actually a little bummed that Poz got the start over Jordon Tripp today who played great last week.

He actually looked faster than he has in quite a while and was the difference maker in shutting down their run game in the second half. Unfortunately they just brought out bigger weapons in Ryan's arm and Jone's speed which could convert 3rd downs at will. Jones and White were not beating Poz while they controlled the clock in the 4th quarter.

 

We need something different on Defense, either a coach or a scheme that will allow a complete game to be played. Maybe we are a Fowler away but it seems we need a Shutdown corner, or  close to a shutdown corner, they all get beat, it just seems ours get beat a lot when it counts.

 

The offense looks much better, and we have a star in Robinson. Those are positives.

They get beat because the wideouts have all day to get open. Even a shut down corner can't cover somebody indefinitely.

Not really. By year 3 of Rivera the Panthers were established in both sides of the ball, won 12 games and made the divisional playoffs. Gus has yet to top 12 wins total, so one is obviously not like the other.

And yet his head was on the chopping block the majority of year 4! Did you forget that, or just failed to bring it up?

Nobody doubts every team wants constant QB harassment. Keep dreaming, we have been wanting the same, as has every other team since the passing rules changed. Ryan was hurried for a good part of the game. He might have even been hit if we blitzed once or twice. But I seen too many slow mo's of House getting beat right off the line and it had nothing to do with the amount of time, he is beat the entire route way too often. These are not pro bowl Corners and they would not be with the best of Lines. You need both no doubt, it's not the chicken or the egg. However I doubt we are just one Fowler away, even with a better rush we need to be getting better on the back end as well.

But sticking to positives per the thread, the run defense looks better, the offense is night and day better than Gabbert days.

Gus? Who knows.

I rewatched the game this morning and saw nothing to change my opinion which is that Poz is a very good linebacker and a tackling machine but has deficiencies in coverage.  I could count several instances in which receivers caught passes over the middle where a faster player would have been able to prevent the completion or stopped forward progress.
