Gregg Rosenthal's tweet about Allen Robinson

Quote:Fan voting is only 1/3rd.

If the players and coaches think someone should be in the pro bowl they get in.

The reality is that it wasn't just the fans that snubbed our players.

I will never understand how fan voting can be only 1/3 of the vote when hundreds of thousands of fans voted for players.

Allen Robinson has 26 plays over 20 yards. No other receiver has more than 21 big plays.

Shaking my head why on Earth didn't he make it to the ProBowl?

because they are stupid, basically and vote for their team's players and not always the ones that deserve it.

While a very strong case can be made that Allen Robinson should have been selected to go to the Pro Bowl,   he was 10th in fan voting and 9th overall ( 1st alternate ).  Hence,  in Robinson's case,  the fan voting at most played a very minor role proportionately in him not making it to the Pro Bowl.   More than anything in this case,  the Jaguars only being in one National TV game this season cost Robinson the honor.   Even the London game probably got less exposure because it was on Yahoo,  not on conventional TV.

What I mean is how can hundreds of thousands of fan votes be an equal fraction as approximately 2,000 votes by coaches and players? That does not make mathematical sense.

Players are not allowed to vote for teammates.

That is because voting is weighted. Since more fans vote than players, and more players vote than coaches, a coach's vote is "worth" more than a player's vote and a player's vote is "worth" more than a fan's vote.

So it is like a quarter being worth more than a dime?

In the Jaguars case the Quarter & Dime are worth less than a Nickel  (See what I did there).

He'll end up in the pro bowl since it's almost a sure thing someone drops out. Sure he's having a better year than a few of those guys, it's pretty close for most of them except for probably megatron who shouldn't even be in the conversation.

No doubt about that. but it still would be better to just get voted in. Right now there is still a good chance Larry Fitzgerald will play in the Super Bowl. But like you said, Allen Robinson is good enough to get more votes.

I mean in order for more Jaguars to have made it you have to give reason why a few that did make it the Pro Bowl didn't deserve it as much as (said Jaguar).

In Allen Robinson case you have to remember that at the start of the season he dropped a lot of easy passes from Blake Bortles, and that may have stuck in a few fans minds, as well as players & coaches.

He did have a few games like against Miami that showed he was going to have a good year but it wasnt as good as he's showing now towards the end of the season...

plus being small market we know goes against Jaguar players, but I think

Telvin Smith, Poz, and AR15 shouldve all made it this year... Allen Hurns couldve had he remained Healthy & Julius Thomas too.

Kind of. This is all hypothetical (I don't know exactly how many fans, coaches, or players voted), but if you think of each "vote" as a coin, each vote a coach gives would have the monetary equivalent of $50. While each vote a player gives would have a monetary equivalent of $5, and each vote a fan gives would be 1¢.

After voting is counted, the players with the highest dollar amount get in.

In this example, essentially 500 fan votes = 1 player vote... 5,000 fan votes = 1 coach vote.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Allen Robinson could actually get paid for being voted in the Pro Bowl, not just get the paycheck for playing in it?

Players are not allowed to vote for teammates.
I hope this makes sense, maybe somebody can explain it better.

Think of a pie having 3 equal slices. Each slice worth 33% of the pie. All of the coaches control one slice. All of the players control one slice. And all of the fans control one slice.

So the coaches take their slice of pie and divide it amongst themselves according to who they think is pro-bowl worthy.

The players do the same with their slice of pie. And so do the fans.

As we know, there are many more fans than there are coaches and players. So when the fans divide their slice of pie(or cast their vote), their individual slices(votes) are going to be much smaller compared to that of a coach's individual slice(vote).

After each group is finished dividing their 1/3 of the pie, they add all the pie back together and see which player received the most pie.

So when fans repeatedly vote, they're only affecting the 1/3 of the pie they control.

Many players have clauses in their contracts that they get a bonus for making the Pro Bowl. Besides the normal cut for each player from the league for playing in the game, they get additional money from their team via their contract.

I wouldn't be surprised if making the pro bowl was a bonus clause in his contract. I believe different contracts are incentive laced like that.
