Gus Bradley Back in 2016

Quote:I will gladly take 1-2 mistakes a year from a coach over 15 years if you give me 4 sbs, and however many playoff appearances(I think 11?). Either way when you are 12-2 you can afford to have a little faith in your defense. Back to the point, if Gus posts a 4 win season next year he will have 16 wins in 64 tries, assuming we finish 5-11. A .25 Win rate!

FUN FACT: If Gus were to average 10 wins a season from now on, it would take a whopping 6, yes SIX years to eclipse a .500 win% mark overall, and a 9-7 record in his 7th season to finish at a.506 win rate.

Even @ 11 per, it wouldn't be until year 5 until Gus has over .500 as a coach, all to cover up the first 3 years of Gusball.

Tom wouldn't come with him.

Brian Billick was hired as an offensive genius.  He was given credit for Randal cunningham, chris Carter and Randy Moss.  Baltimore got the coach but the hall of famers didn't come with him.  He called the same plays, put in the same effort, had the same sense of accountability but gosh darn it Tony Banks just wasn't the same kind of guy.  As a result, the team was dominated by its defense.

Our secondary is trash, aside from House they don't have ball skills.  Our Dline can't rush the passer.  You can call cover 3 cover 2 cover 4 blitz single high whatever.  none of that crap matters when the ball is in the air.

We only have 3 picks in the first three rounds a year.  We spent the majority of them on the foundations for our explosive offense and most of those have been successful.  Now we have to build the d.

I don't like it anymore than anyone here, but at the same time i recognize that if Gratz can't win when the ball is in the air then we eventually just have to find someone else.

When a coach who has been to 6 Super Bowls and won 4 makes that kind of gamble and lose he gets a pass.

Btw his team already has the division locked up.

Quote:It is what it is.

For all the losses this year I still feel the offense has really improved. Fact......Bortles can move the ball and score big time. His numbers reflect this. There are flashes during some of his drives that resemble a well oiled offense and then they revert back to mediocrity. There is no consistency.

What the Jags have really need is discipline and while Gus has been a motivator he does not have what it takes skill wise to completely package this team. He has pointed the team in the right direction but he can't take it home.

It would have been nice to get rid of Gus, but to find another coach that will step into place and not rebuild to his idea of an offense and defense is going to be hard. Kahn needs to find a coach who can work with what we currently have and that is going to be difficult. I think almost all the pieces of the puzzle are here..........we just need a coach who can produce.

It's ironic, this year the stars were in alignment in our division. If we would have been playing better ball we could of easily made it to the playoffs based on our rivals poor performance this year. Hopefully they don't rebound next year!

Just my two cents.........for what is worth I am a long time lurker, just never registered. I did not know until this past Sunday when the forum was down how much I visited this site. Game started and it was like where the hell did the site go. It is always great reading the comments during the game to see how my observations stack up to everyone else's.

Happy New Years!

I bet your brother Amelia Island was pissed he couldn't post the game day thread.

So with that being said, I totally anticipate a new DC. Gus is staying so that's put to bed, who do you guys think could be the next DC?

I guess that comes down to whether some top flight DC's are willing to run the Seattle scheme.

From what I've read here, Gus wants to keep the current scheme.

If that's true, is a really good dc candidate willing to come here and run a scheme they don't believe in?

I think babich will be fired. But I have a feeling the new dc will be a relative unknown, or an in house promotion.

So you used a regular season scenario to argue a freaking game winning play in the freaking SUPER BOWL.

Go back to bed.

I think it's going to be something they try to upgrade as much as they can. There are plenty of guys out there that know the scheme.

It's basically a 3-4 with some slight differences so maybe that at least limits it to a 3-4 guy.

If that is true, super UGH. Caldwell better hit on all his draft picks and free agent signings.
No commercial messages in sigs

To me, the d looks like a 4-3 with a 3 man cover zone backing it up... Lol, I know everyone loves throwing out terms like otto and leo, but I'm sorry, I just are vanilla 4 man rush and a three deep zone behind it.

I just think that top coordinators will not want to come here just to run Gus' defence...

Hopefully Caldwell talks dine sense into Bradley and tells him he should either run the d himself, or hire a couple coordinators like he did for the offense, and let them call the shots.

This would leave Gus the ability to do what he apparently does best, which I'd motivate and keep people positive.

Sorry its early for me. I meant 4-3, 4-3 under with the cover 3 is the base. Gus running the defense and leaving offensive play calling to Olson might be best case scenario.

So, coaching only counts in the post season?  This is the best you can come back with?  Please, if anyone needs to go back to bed, it's you.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What exactly is Gus' job if he hires people to run a whole new defense?  That's stupid and should just result in him being fired in the first place.

I'm just trying to come up with solutions. He's a rah rah type of guy, right?

His offensive coaches have turned the terrible offense around in one season after they were hired.

And that offense was miserable under fish.

So why not do the same thing with the defence?

I mean, yeah. It would be smarter to just get rid of Gus, promote either Olson or marrone to head coach and then revamp the coaches in defense. But we didn't do that.

I'm just thinking of options to make next year not another 5-6 win season.

we'll be something like 7-9 next year based off of sheer offensive talent and Khan will rinse and repeat about how we are "on the right track" and how Gus will be back in 2017

dude is going to be here for at least another two years

I don't know... 7 wins may be a tall order, depending on how well we draft and what free agents we pick up.

Also, anyone know what afc and nfc divisions we're scheduled to play? I mean, you guys realize how weak the divisions we faced this year were? Beside the Panthers and the patriots, the afce and nfcs were very weak this year.

Lastly, our division will not be set up like this ever again.

7 wins seems like wishful thinking under Bradley without a huge defensive face lift

I think the offensive talent will take even another step forward and win us a couple games more next year. Even if the defense is marginally better, that won't be so far-fetched.

We're stuck with this guy for another two years

smhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

This is actually what i was trying to get through to some ppl. There are several different types of Head Coaches in the league. And each type has examples of success and failer.

There is the Coordinater coach who caoches up and designs and run his offence or defence schemes and hires someone else to run the opposite side(exmp Bruce Arians, Mike Macarthy, Rex Ryan,Sean Peyton

There is the Motivational coach who hires offensive and defensive coordinators to design and run and coach their sides he oversees and motivates the team(exmp Mike tomlin, Pete Carol, John Harbaugh

Then there is the Disciplinairan coach who has his hands in both offense defence and every aspect of the game everything is done his way (exp Tom Coghlin, Mike Holmgren, jim harbaugh

Now there are blends of all and more examples out there. the point im trying to make is Gus is the motivational coach wich he learned form pete carol, if you have been to practices you see he goes from group to group pumping them up, he lets his coaches coach. I do admit he chose the coaches so its on him. But you ppl think gus is out there coaching the defence himself. the head coach is responsible for everything the team does there is no denyng that. But it does help to understand what type of head coach he is and how he coaches to better critique him. If you just judge him by wins and losses and say he sucks, then that is the same as judging your QB by wins and loses (as some of you would do in the past) saying BB5 sucks.

I love it.....

Not because Gus is the best coach.

Not even because I think next year will be different.

I love it because of the whiners and hand wringers on here.

I love it because of the people who think they know just got a shot of realization that they don't know.

I love it because we're taking a more patient approach as opposed to using the Cleveland model.

Am I satisfied with a 5 or 6 win season? Hell no. I've made numerous posts saying that 8 wins should have been a reasonable expectation for fans. 6 wins should be the Gus is safe line.

Khan decided 5 was enough. Marked improvement from ground zero.

You guys don't like hearing it. But it's real talk.

I would not be surprised, however, if this vote of confidence from Khan has a caveat.... If next season starts rough... we could see Maronne or Olson move in to take over the reigns.

Next season, playoffs or bust for this team...

Everyone knows it, especially Gus.

While he is promised the job for 2016, I didn't get the sense the entirety of the season is promised.

Progress now must come with results.

Amazingly though.... many many many of you will continue to beat the drum. Drumming up pages upon pages of whining, crying, complaining, and arguing... over something completely out of your control.

I love it.
