Tanking for #3 (Draft Pick)

#41

Quote:You guys really hit the nail on the head with that ridiculous idea.

Khan on the announcement that Bradley is being retained in 2016:

"In the meantime, I expect his coaching staff and team to respond favorably to this news in preparation for Houston on Sunday and then begin thinking about what more they can provide next season. We have high ambitions.”

Frankly, that seemed like a very ominous comment to me. Makes me think Gus' job may not be so very safe if we manage to get destroyed by the tinhorns.

Just play like they've been playing. If they try tanking, they will win.

Watt needs 2 sacks to win the sack race, so he'll be motivated. Just keep BB upright.

We can play our very best and it would appear we are tanking!

I don't get what is the attractiveness of the higher draft pick really. We've been picking in the top 10 for 10 years and what has it gotten us? OTOH, the Patriots pick in the bottom and they seem to do just fine. Its about who you pick, not when you pick.

Sounds like he's saying to tank by not saying to tank, to me.

I expect the coaches to respond favorably and start getting ready for next season?  You know the best way to get ready for next season?  Ensure BB5, the Allen Brothers, Telvin Smith, etc don't get injured in a meaningless week 17 game...  Just saying.

I don't believe in tanking.  But I think protecting next season is a good idea.  I think Shad removing any anxiety on the coaches for week 17 is a pretty nice non-verbal cue...

But that's my opinion, and I could be wrong.  I just don't see the point of pretending that this game on Sunday is huge.  So if some players need to be protected, I don't have a problem with that.

With both starting tackles injured no way would I put Blake out there in a meaningless game.

That goes for other core players as well

Quote:I am not a tank guy and I don't believe teams, let alone 54 individual professionals would ever purposely lose a game.

That being said, I will be absolutely fine if Blake throws for 400 yards and 5 TD's in a losing effort.

then you ARE a tank guy

That would have to lift the spirits of the Houston faithful. Losing to the Jags at home the week before a home playoff game? Yea, I'll take embarrassing a division rival at home and demoralizing their fans over a higher draft pick any day.

This. Do people not realize yet we suck? Yeah Bortles and the Allens can put up stats, but thats about it. We have no running game, and our defense shouldnt even be called that. They should be the enablers for other teams to do "first time" on us every week.

Our passing game is legit but we have no run game and zero defense so we're probably going to lose anyway.  I hope we get as good of a draft pick as possible, but I'm not going to be mad because we won either.  That seems silly.

Well, if we lose terribly, I don't think anyone will accuse us of tanking. It will just look like another average Sunday.

The team can play all out. Wiz will personally do what it takes to ensure they lose.

Tanking is counter productive when you have a young team trying to figure out how to put a team away and win.

What would be the best thing for this franchise is to see Bortles and this offense lay into the texans starting with the very first drive and have a game where they put someone away without having so many mistakes that the other team can steal it from them.

Having this team figure out how to run this potent offense without shooting themselves in the foot is way more important than moving up a few positions in the draft.

And for the multiple players on our roster that we heavily rely on who haven't even played two full seasons worth of games, one game is extremely valuable and significant towards their learning what it takes to win consistently in this league.

With young players, even so called "meaningless games" have a significant impact.

In the psychology of learning how to win, success breeds success.
