Bortles int killed the jags!

Quote:It's not the INTs that bother me. It's the REALLY bad ones. You just can't keep doing that. There was just no excuse for the one at the end of the half. You HAVE TO come away with some points.

He is already a really good QB. But he has to improve on the really boneheaded plays and he could be a GREAT QB.
I felt the same way in the Pats/ Eagles game 3 weeks ago. If I was coaching New England, Brady would be sitting! He makes stupid mistakes, nobody can deny that. But hes 23 years old in his second offensive system in as many seasons.

He's 23, and is already the most improved qb in the nfl. He's well on his way, bubba.

He didn't have many strengths at this time last year. This year, he's improved in all facets, but specifically throwing the deep ball. I'm sure cutting down the turnovers will be a focal point for him, or atleast improving at reading defenses and diagnosing defenses, and makin better decisions. That should decrease his amount of turnovers. He has a 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio.

I don't get why people on here get so defensive when someone criticizes Bortles. It's like they believe as a fan they must support every single thing. He does stare down receivers and make boneheaded mistakes. Doesn't make him sucky. Just inexperienced. Nothing wrong with calling it how you see it.

With all the garbage players this franchise has spewed over the past decade you think more fans would be more critical.

I don't get it.  I don't think I said a single thing that is invalid.  I even try to preface my remarks with compliments...say he is young....

But people still insist on getting their panties in a twist.

And, by the way, you blow the 'stares down receivers' way out of proportion.

I tried tellin' him to not show up. But would he listen to me?!?!? Nooooo.

Back on topic though, those "glaring" mistakes by Bortles I'm willing to live with, for this season. He absolutely has to stop doing those kinds of things in order for this team to perform up to their potential on a consistent basis. However! I do like how he shrugs off his previous mistakes and still takes his shots. That's just part of who he is and how he plays the game.

Here's hoping that another season of tweaking his mechanics, learning how to prepare for an opponent, and learning how to recognize the situation he is in will provide us what we all want; Good tailgating cheeseburgers.

I prefer the prime rib that we had on Sunday.  NYC made some fancy-shmancy Frenchie potatoes.  All-rotten potatoes...or something like that.  He could've made some 'Murican side dish like the rest of us.

And I agree with your second paragraph (did I really just say that?).  Something about that INT this past Sunday just hurt (me in particular) more than the others.  Maybe it was my fault.  I think that was the first game that I walked into this year where I truly expected us to win.

And speaking of the stadium, they really need to stop that "Lock Down the Bank!" crap until they actually have a defense that can do it.

Well that's your problem, right there. You expected a win. The rest of us were very nervous and were very concerned the other shoe was about to drop after that delicious 50 burger we engorged ourselves with last week.

On a side note--- prime rib during the tail gate!!! Outstanding!

I guess that I had conditioned myself not to expect the result to come out as a win due to the glaring weakness that is the Pass Rush. When you're going up against Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, you need to force some throws and Jacksonville's Defense can't do that without putting the Coverage under some serious duress. Then again, you know that already. That said, the Offense needs to recognize their role in the gameplan and make certain that they score points when the opportunity presents itself. I really can't bang on them too hard for this because they did okay in terms of Red Zone production but the team needed those points at the end of the First.

I'm just nitpicking here on Bortles fantastic season but he has missed some reads that could've resulted in either long gains or scores and instead resulted in interceptions or stalled drives. While re-watching the Saints game I noticed on Bortles first interception that Lee was wide open and Bortles instead decided to force an unnecessary pass.

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000610212/Jaguars-vs-Saints-broadcast-highlights'>http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000610212/Jaguars-vs-Saints-broadcast-highlights</a>

Fast forward to about the :40 mark and you'll see Lee wide open uncovered with plenty of green around him in the top right corner of the screen.

Outside of this game he's also missed wide open WRs in the Tampa, Miami, and Cinci game in which he forced an unnecessary pass just off the top of my head. It's something he'll need to work on during the off season. If he can learn how to read the entire field it will be scary how good he can become.

Quote:No one is expecting "full consistency". Come on man we are all fans of Bortles and what he's accomplished so far in his short career but he has to get better in the decision making department. This isn't one or two games we are talking about here, its been a recurring theme since his rookie year. He has to get better for this team to turn the close losses into wins. And yes so does the defense and the RBs and the WRs etc but it starts with the QB.

You throw rookie season out there like it was years ago. You mean last year. You mean, a 23 year old QB needs to continue to improve.

Got it. Sounds good.

I didn't get it either for the longest time, but in a way he is the only ray of hope for this team.

Quote:Derek Carr has thrown 3 pick sixes this season the same amount as blake bortles but I bet you the Raiders fans appreciate him and our fans want to run blake out of town. No wonder I got my share of warnings on here because of some of these fans make me spew hatred towards them For their constant negativity towards our Qb and this team. Some of y'all feel free to please root for someone else and become a bandwagon fan of a winning team Like the Patriots if you want every game and every player on this team to be perfect because some of yall expectations of this QB and team is unrealistic.

I'm with ya on the warning thing, I've done the same and now am one warning away from a 6 month ban. So therefore I'm biting my tongue and shaking my head and letting dumb people be dumb. There's always a place for them in society even if it's for us to laugh at! Lol.

I think I've been banned twice.

I was wondering where you ran off to. Hang in there, the warnings fall off after 6 months, and we're about to hit the dead season...

They know he can't throw a fade so why try and on top twice in a row. The ints did hurt, fumbles, bad snap and when you come out flat for half a game we can't afford those mistakes. To me the D did it's part pretty well and yes it gave up some plays and TD's but when they did cause a turnover or 3 & out then the O needed to capitalize not go 3 & out and give the ball right back. I feel that he may not have thrown some of those picks if the coaches would've taken their time and called timeouts in the 1st half drives when you have 3 to use. On top of it they seem to abandon the run alot during a game and put more pressure on him throwing. Could've run more during drives set up play-action and run more in the redzone. Going deep more with the WRs we have could've backed off the CB. It will be interesting to see how we play against Hou with nothing to lose aymore.

To be fair, at that point he was scrambling to his right. It might have been possible for him to see and throw to Lee at that point but it's generally thought to be a pretty bad idea to throw back across your body that way, plus a guy was running at him at that point.

I think his decision to throw to his best receiver who had position on his man was fine, it was the fact that the referees all failed to recognize his man running through him to pop the ball up in the air and allow for the INT in the first place that was the problem.
