Bob Babich Fired

Quote:Montee would be jus what the Jags are looking for, a stop gap. Someone with a lot of knowledge and experience who can get the thing back on track. We dont need some up and coming DC or someone not familiar with Gus to come in here and try to implement his scheme and possibly create turmoil. It needs to be Gus's defense. This is his year, he's got to right it, bringing in someone familiar to him and him being more involved with defense is what is needed.

Gus could be the DC with Montee in an consulting/advising role, works with him and the defense.

Is there any proof anywhere that "Gus's Defense" is successful?

Seattle's defense improved while Gus was there and got even better in the years since.  So how much did he really have to do with their success?

Seattle also has had like 3 times the talent the Jags have had the past decade. Easy to coach when you have Sherman/Thomas/ Kam Chancellor etc on the field.

Get a DC with NFL experience and let him do his thing......college isn't the NFL, and bringing in college coaches and

hoping it works out is a mistake, a BIG mistake.

Things started working when we got an OC from the league, bet it would work with the DC.

So you fire the OC last year and the DC this year but you don't fire the guy who was responsible for hiring them...genius!

Quote:I think most people pretty much expected Babich to be the fall guy.  The thing here is that no matter who Gus hires, that person will be panned widely by the experts on the board.  But, what we've seen from Gus with the 2nd wave of coaches that he's hired is that they've actually turned out to be good selections.  The development we have seen this year related to Bortles in particular is a testimony of how much the changes to the offensive staff have helped this team develop.  It's still not quite where it needs to be, but the arrow is pointing upward.  If he can get a defensive coordinator who can provide similar improvement, the team will be much more competitive next year assuming the talent acquisitions continue.
Seems to me that Gus's guys have sucked (Babich and Fisch) while Caldwells guys (Olsen, Marrone Hackett) seem to be doing quite well.

Bradley was given his choice of coordinators when he first got here but once they sucked, Caldwell gets to jump in.

You mad, bro?

Guess you'd prefer them back, too.

Would love to see that

You wonder if Bradley can manage being DC, head cheerleader, and Ice Cream party host.

I don't want any of them back including Gus.  What does it say about his judgment if he thinks Jedd Fisch and Bob Babich are legit NFL coordinators?

You sure?

They were talking up Todd Wash a lot on radio tonight. Probably going to be that guy. He's already on the staff, familiar with the scheme and players and from what they were saying is a good, fiery coach.

anyone ever think maybe fisch and babich were the best bradley could get at the time.  jaguars were a real dumpster fire when gene smith left.  coaches probably were even more aware of the lack of talent than the common fan was.

Quote:Ryan O Halloran suspects Gus's mentor Montee Kiffin could be brought in in some capacity as well, to try and get the ship righted.

I mentioned this idea about a month ago. Please, please, please happen.

When they were in the process of hiring everyone, I remember Caldwell speaking about it and saying Bradley was the one making the decisions. Obviously I'm taking that at face value, but I believe it to be true.

I sure hope not. I want someone experienced to run this defense. Keep an eye on Raheem Morris.

Gus needs to be surrounded with as many guys with NFL coaching experience as possible just like they did on the offensive side of the ball. Go hire Raheem Morris and Monte Kiffen. Raheem Morris, Monte Kiffen, Todd Walsh, Doug Marrone, Greg Olsen, and Nathaniel Hackett around Gus should be a good enough coaching staff... Right?
