Seems to me that Gus's guys have sucked (Babich and Fisch) while Caldwells guys (Olsen, Marrone Hackett) seem to be doing quite well.


Bradley was given his choice of coordinators when he first got here but once they sucked, Caldwell gets to jump in.

 

Olsen, Marrone, and Hacket are all Gus guys. 

 

Gus knew Olsen from TB, Marrone interviewed with him (read past articles detailing how the process went with Marrone just having conversation with Gus, then got enticed to join staff), and then Marrone brought Hackett with him.

Babich is dreadful. He took over the number one defense in the league from Ron Rivera, a Defense chick full of pro bowlers like Urlacher, Briggs, Charles Tillman and great players like Daniel Manning, Chris Harris and Nathan Vasher among others and completely ruined the unit. He was a horrible playcaller and would never make in game adjustments when his defense would be getting shredded by average QB’s. His defense could not get any pressure on the QB and he’d keep calling for Zone defense with a simple four man rush even thought the bears had some of the best man to man corners and pash rushing linebackers in the league. He would not adjust his defense to fit his personell and Lovie finally mercifully ripped play calling duties away from him and demoted him. He’d be fine as a linebackers coach but we are in deep [BAD WORD REMOVED] if he’s given any authority over the defense or playcalling responsibilities from Bradley. Now that babich is gone, if we continue with this same type of garbage scheme and game planning, we'll know that babich was just following orders of the head coach.


I hope the next dc is smart enough to figure out how to adjust a defence when the original plan stops working.

        e.)  UVA Al Groh, former Patriots DC team won AFC Championship in 1996.

 

Wilks isn't going anywhere. He's probably moved to DC in Carolina after McDermott is hired as a head coach. Even if he's not, he's an assistant head coach, and the Panthers would probably block his move.

 

Thomas maybe. He's been in the league forever, he's a Hall of Famer, he was the interim HC of the Falcons, but would he want to start over on a "built" team when the Chiefs are knocking on the door?

Tim Lewis has been an ok coordinator throughout his career. We could do worse.

 

Al Groh is a straight up 3-4 guy who wouldn't mesh well with Gus' scheme.

 

Raheem Morris is a very intriguing option who very well might should be able to meld minds with Gus regarding our scheme.

I'd almost rather we bring in someone who isn't indoctrinated in whatever the Tampa Two has evolved into under Carroll and Bradley. I think the defense, as it exists, is too predictable and too well-known in the NFL, and we need a guy who'll introduce some new wrinkles to it.

 

That said, I kind of expect Bradley to promote from within so he keeps his scheme more or less untouched.
