Is Cyrprien Overrated?
|
Quote:With all due respect, you're wrong. Odrick and Miller have played well against the run, that's why we have been one of the top teams in run average allowed.I dont even know what Cyprien is good at. People keep saying he is a box safety, but the guy cant even tackle!!! He cant tackle, he cant cover, what exactly does he do that stands out? We show less advertisements to registered users. He is overrated but partly because he'll have a great game than a horrible one he's all over the place. He's good against the run which is what Gus wants out of his SS.

Reminds me of Reggie Nelson in how the light never went on for him until he left the jags. Hopefully, Cyp gets it together for us. I can see the potential, but he's very frustrating to watch. Maybe he's just not a fit for our scheme?
I am hoping if he can remain healthy all year in 2016, and if the Jaguars sign Jalen for FS or sign KC Eric for example in FA so that he can remain near the line to stop the run as the 8th man in the box as Gus Scheme intended than we can truly rate him at SS (he is a scheme SS, because if you rate him as an overall SS he is average at best).

I don't think he's overrated because the majority of Jags fans hate him. Cyprian is just better than what's available.. I imagine he has some decent knowledge and privy of the playbook, being that he is one of Bradley's first choice safeties ( I can't speak to that) .. He is very inconsistent, like most mentioned, he has great plays and mostly oh man plays.. Sometimes he just doesn't look fast enough, there are many plays where he makes the right decisions but he's not quick enough to react... but I do believe he's a hard worker and I think he has a presence on the field for portions of the game, but it's not enough.. there needs to be another safety in this defense...
He needs to be more of the Deon Grant of this defense. Schematically he needs to be used more like Grant was, and Grant was always more successful when he was part of a strong safety duo in Carolina and Seattle as well
Overrated at what?
I'd wager most see him as a talented guy worth keeping around that has a lot to improve on.

Quote:Well, Sergio Brown and Josh Evans need to be handed walking papers, Cyprien will be here, but the entire secondary needs to be addressed. Whoever is the DC next year needs to seriously sit down and take a look at what they will do with that secondary, that is not NFL material, and Gus and the staff have not done their jobs this season as far as making adjustments to the defense and the scheme. I kind of like how Evans can hit as a FS and wouldn't mind seeing him stick strictly for depth, or at least to compete or a backup spot in camp. Sergio is just too inconsistent. Every now and then I like how he can offer support over the top, but then the following week he's a ghost. Like these two, Cyp is at best good for depth. I'd like to get a better look at Sample, but even Caldwell is saying he's not a longterm answer at S. Straight up this team needs a new starting SS and a new starting FS.

I still rank Grant as the best FS this team has ever had. Now he could play. Granted Cyp had the third highest tackle count on the team at 108, but that sort of comes with the position. Often a team's SS leads the team, and in Cyp's case, 30 of those were assists. With all of those, how often has he really had a wow hit? I can recall a couple, but that's it. What's really telling is his whopping pass defensed count of 2 on the season. He failed to even reach the whopping 3 PDs he recorded in 2014.

Cyp is mediocre and that's about it, IMO.
BORTLES ISN'T A FRANCHISE QB. FOURNETTE WILL BE A BUST.
Quote:Overrated at what? Asking because no one was able to answer. How can someone be overrated when everyone thinks he needs a lot of work?

My favorite excuse is the "well he doesn't have a good free safety next to him so he has to do more"... It's such crap. A good safety elevates the play others around him - cyprien doesn't do that.
He's just not a good player. He's a player on a 5-11 team. If everything around him gets a lot better, sure the team will get better too. It's clear that cyprien will not be a reason for any potential turnaround. If we improve, it is because players around him are different or better. I would classify him as a miss by Caldwell.

Not only are Brown/Evans not very good starters but they switch them out constantly so there is no consistency in the backfield with him. I just don't get why people give Cyp crap for taking a bad angle or missing a tackle when almost everyone on the defense in front of him misses them first. Shouldn't we be more concerned how like 8 or 9 other guys missed?
A poor pass rush/ FS doesn't give Cyprien an excuse for his missed tackles and terrible pursuit angles.
Regardless of the team he is on, he's bad. Very bad. His "good" games are ones where he just doesn't completely blow it, much less actually have an impact on the game.

We will just have to agree to disagree. cyprien doesn't have any impact plays, which is the main reason I think he needs to get replaced. He's an average tackler, below average in coverage, and does not have a knack for big plays. He's a 5-11 safety.
