I don't think when your job is basically on the line, that you bring in a new guy, unfamiliar with your scheme, and try to teach it to him.


I wouldn't want lovie here. The Tampa 2 is a bland defense. Our defense now already lacks aggression. We need someone who is familiar with the scheme in some capacity who will come in and make opposing qbs afraid of us instead of feeling like they're taking a nice walk in the park.

Tampa 2 seems far more flexible and versatile compared to what Gus is trying to run.

They were about the same vs the run but were far and away better vs the pass despite bringing less pressure. Simply put, Raheem Morris was strictly their pass coverage coordinator, and that happened to be the best part of their defense. Morris would quickly get to work on revamping the Jaguars secondary while helping Colvin and House to flourish, and you can trust he can handle the entire D knowing he's a former HC. I have to think he's one of the front runners for the spot.

Billick is an offensive coach, yet won the Super Bowl with the Ravens with a low scoring offense but a dominant defense

Gruden is an offensive coach, and same thing with the Bucs.

Coughlin is an offensive coach, but won a championship because of their defense (Spagnoulo was the red hot DC, then went on to HC and have bad defensive teams)

I believe this is what will happen. But for different reasons. I don't think they are going to get a no-name because they are bad decision makers, I believe they will go towards a "scrub" because Gus is going to want to call the plays on defense and no upstanding DC will want to come and be micromanaged.
