Why weren't Caldwell and other scouts concerned with Fowler's explosion?

Not a Fowler fan either. I see him as a "solid" player who will never be great or elite. His ACL injury makes me question him even more.

To his credit he has a lot of drive and if anyone can overcome the injury it's him...just don't expect him to be our savior at rushing the passer.

As some have suggested, I'd be more concerned (at this stage) about his ability to return from injury - and his ability to become the person we drafted him to be.

He can't become the latter before the former, and even if he weren't injured (or if he comes back 110%) he still has yet to prove the latter.

Quote:I agree, he looks to me like a high motor Andre Branch. That's what comes of "need" drafting, you often end up failing to fill your need while also passing up players that could have turned out to be great players for years.

I don't think calling him "a high motor Andre Branch" is fair due to the fact that he hasn't played a down in the NFL yet..give him a while.

Not fair to Andre Branch? Okay. Just going by what his college tape looked like. A guy that didn't bend around the tackle to make pressure the way NFL players have to do. He could be another Joeckel level miss.

Wasn't me saying that, I liked what I saw out of Bortles coming out of college. I didn't expect him to be taken at #3 overall, but I liked his ability to evade pressure while keeping his eyes down field in a pro style offense.

Any chance Fowler could maybe, oh I don't know, play a game before we break him down and go nuclear negative. Dude hasn't even stepped on the field in uniform yet

Andre Branch is probably the worst comparison out of anyone I can think of lol.

OMG!  With all of the issues facing this team we now attack the rookie that was drafted last year and put on IR before the season even started.  SMH!

Fowler is a swiss army knife kind of player, who can do a little bit of everything and has the potential to do it all very well. Branch was a speed rusher in college and hasnt advanced too much further from that. Very different players and potential.

Lol, I don't think I need to give my opinion of Fowler again.

It would be easier to be positive about his return, if he weren't lost for the year the moment he stepped on the practice field.

How about we consider that?  He's not a top 5 pick hopeful any more.

He's now a top 5 pick hopeful who spend a year on the sideline after a MAJOR injury.

Your opinion on Fowler is a good thing.  Im sure you will be wrong again just like on your other predictions on you 1st round players you had mocked to us in Beasley, Geno, and Teddy.

Looks like two good players and what's looking like an unfortunate what-if to me.

As a florida fan I always felt like fowler couldn't shed a block and that's my concern . at florida he could beat the opponents on pure speed and explosion but if someone squared up on him he could be taken out of the play. In the NFL he's not going to be that much faster than everyone else even before the acl which is why I consider him a tweener. He had one trick explosive speed and now he has an acl injury I don't know how much of that explosive speed he's lost.

That's sad. I don't know what else you need to see on tape? He literally did everything on that defense lol...

Might as well go ahead and "literally" put him in the Pride, right?
