Yeah, they had no alternative. Hoyer isn't a starting quality QB in the league. (unless he's facing the Jaguars vaunted "LEO/OTTO/LARRYMOEANDCURLY" defense)

 

I'm eternally grateful that they passed on two franchise level QBs in the 2014 draft, the division dodged a bullet there. With a franchise QB the texans roster is good enough to compete for a Superbowl thanks to the defense.

 

  At the very least,   I think Blake Bortles is on a direct path to be a Franchise QB.

 

  Based on what I've seen of Teddy Bridgewater,  at the very least I think he's good enough already to have help the Texans to go deep in the AFC playoffs,  based on the current AFC situation.

 

  I haven't seen Derek Carr as much.   Carr hasn't played as well in the games I have seen him as he appears to have played overall.   Hence,  I'm being a little more cautious in my assessment of him.     Yet,  there's no question that Carr is better than anyone on the Texans roster at the QB position.   I can't blame the Texans for passing on him because of what transpired with his older brother with the expansion Texans.   Right now though,  they would appear to be far better off with Derek Carr than their starting LG,  the player they took at the top of Round 2 in 2014.

I'm curious, 02, what makes you believe that? Perhaps the Vikings don't ask much out of Bridgewater, like throwing deep passes. I would like to see how Bridgewater would do on another team, where he would be forced to make deeper throws.

It's just the eyeball test. Watching Teddy play does not instill me with the kind of confidence I get from watching Carr, Bortles or even Hoyer play. Teddy is capable of managing games when surrounded by talent, but put him in a weak offense and I'm convinced he'd quickly crumble.

Teddy seems like an even lesser Mariota. Mariota is limited and frail, Teddy is even more limited and more frail than Mariota.

 

Watching Teddy play today I saw Mariota on a better team.

I have to confess that Bridgewater, not Bortles, was the QB I wanted in the 2014 draft. I remember talking to a UCF alum at work, and he insisted Bortles would be the better QB in the NFL.  I didn't believe him; I dismissed him as a homer. Then he asked me to take a look at the UCF-Louisville game, Bridgewater vs. Bortles, where Bortles virtually won the game by himself.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Hoyer won't be on the roster next year.  Tom Savage or a Rookie will be the starter.  Weeden or TJ Yates will be the backup or 3rd QB.

ONE PLAYER LOST THAT GAME.......Hoyer.  He got an assist from Bill O'Brien with that [BLEEP] goal line play calling.   The defense played well....they just got tired....especially when JJ went down.   Ive never seen QB single-handlely lose a playoff game.....until yesterday.  5 Turnovers............he should have been pulled after the first half.   No worries....he is gone.  No way they can bring him back in ANY capacity.  The fan base would boo him EVERYTIME they see him.

  Brian Hoyer's performance was the closest thing I've seen to the epic playoff meltdown by former Lions QB Scott Mitchell in the 1995 playoffs in Philadelphia.

  We disagree this time around.

 

  Teddy Bridgewater doesn't have the most physical talent and size , plus his release is lower than ideal.   IMO though,  Bridgewater has more than enough arm strength,  good mobility,  and accuracy.   Bridgewater's anticipation and toughness are strengths.   His work ethic and leadership skills are major positives.    With a very good supporting cast,  I think a team can eventually win a Super Bowl with Bridgewater providing he remains relatively healthy.   Especially,  since Bridgewater will be playing the majority of his regular season games in a dome moving forward,  as long as he remains with the Vikings.      The Texans would very likely be in far better shape if they would have traded up for Bridgewater instead of the Vikings leaping them at the end of Round 1 in 2014.
