Why weren't Caldwell and other scouts concerned with Fowler's explosion?

Calais went to the U and McCoy to Oklahoma....apples and oranges (eye roll)

Quote:I imagine he put in some upper body work in his recovery and has been working with NFL trainers for almost a year now. The kid has even been highly involved in defensive meetings from the few reports we have gotten.

I'd imagine. He seems like a good kid and hard worker.

Exactly, or will he essentially be a man without a position once the Gus Bus experiment ends.

He put up a dozen in high school so 19 or 20 isn't outside the realm of possibility. I'd give him 50/50.

And Anquan Boldin ran a 4.8. It doesn't mean running fast isn't important for receivers. Physical limitations can and are overcome all the time. I'm just stating that strength isn't one of Fowler's athletic qualities.

I agree, a poor squat would be far more telling than a poor bench.

My bad. I thought it was 225. I stand corrected then, 19 or 20 seems highly unlikely. Still, my point was that its not uncommon for receivers and defensive backs to put up 19+ bench reps.

I'm just stating that the bench test is poor indication of strength. Especially for guys with long arms.

Clowney only put up 2 more reps than Fowler did

I don't disagree that it is a poor indicator, but it is an indicator, nonetheless. When you see Fowler shirtless you see a lot of soft. Game tape shows him getting overpowered by tackles. The bench press in this case reaffirms the eye test.

Another thing that I take from bench press, and it doesn't seem true in Fowler's case whatsoever, is that bench press usually is a good barometer for how hard an athlete works. Most of your loafers put up poor bench numbers.

Didn't we have all these discussions last year after we drafted him?

Just go back and re read the thread for fun.

Fowler deserves at least a year on the field before he's bashed or even proclaimed the best since sliced bread.

Quote:You can't admit he was a bad pick? Not upset they passed on anyone else. Upset they reached so far for a risky tweener and on top of it he got hurt right off the bat. Yup, knockout pick.

Well, at least you have an injury excuse for if he doesn't work out that you wouldn't have if he didn't get hurt.

Gator fans were just voted worst in college football. It's threads like these where they prove it also spills over into the NFL.

Hey there's at least 3 gator fans in this thread that have said the Fowler pick is concerning

You guys need more things to fill your day than to say a player is a bust before he even gets on the field.

I can't believe there are real people who use the word "shade" in this context.
