There's a place called Blanding Automotive Volvo Specialist on 103rd St. (shrug, I don't get it either). My daughter bought a Volvo from a guy I worked with who always took it there for service when he owned it. We took it once while she owned it and they seemed to be competent, friendly and not predatory.

This reminds me to ask you something.... Do you know of anyone in the Jax area mechanic world that really knows Volvos?

The dealers are obviously exorbitantly priced with repairs and the only "Euro Specialist" I've tried locally (thus far) didn't really know the car well enough to pinpoint the issue.

Had to drop the lower control arm, the axle, exhaust manifold, oil dipstick and some bypass hoses to get to it. Than we had to lossen the upper control arm to shift the spindle so we could drop it out. This takes the place of the northstar in caddy's being the worst started job lol.


As for volvos good luck, I've only worked with one guy that really knew volvos but he's in Daytona haven't meet any in jax but I just started in this market last may. I had been running a shop in Daytona for years before moving back up here.

Yea I thought it was going to be easy money when the book called for 5.7 hours it took all of 4 hours next time can probably get it done in 3 but it's still a pain in the rear.

Was watching some videos after work some people take the manifold out completely but it was easier to just lossen the manifold then move the axle and spindle to drop her out. That manifold is way tight going in and out.

Lol, that would have taken me 3 days. Maybe another day to account for finding all the wrenches I'd have thrown.

A colleague of mine has inadvertently told us all that he looks at [BAD WORD REMOVED] on a works computer.

 

I sent him a link to a soccer highlights website which is supported by advertisments.

 

The advertisments on your page are decided upon suggestions from your browsing history.

 

Mine, for example, were Jaguars/NFL merchandise, Drums/Percussion equipment and kids WWE toys etc (I have a 5 year old).

 

His, however went by this theme - 'local women must be punished' - 'I am very naughty, contact me' et al.

 

Needless to say, we had a good laugh about it.

Sheesh. That's a ridiculous starter job. 

 

The volvo has a bit of a ghost in the machine electrically.  Little things tend to go out intermittently. Right now its the reverse lights and tag illumination. 

I'm guessing its a fuse box or wiring harness thing. 

Also - either the heater box or the sunroof drain hoses are dumping water into my rear passenger floorboard. I've read about this model having this issue and can probably tackle it at home - but someone who's done it before  (and at the right price)  would save me some hassle. 

 

Of course - if those wires to the trunk are passing through that wet spot - this could be one problem and not two.

Depending on the year and model some of the mid 90s volvos have the battery and what we call the body control module under the rear passenger seat. If your getting water in the valley of the floor board and have exposed circuits I would almost guarantee the problems are related. What year is your Volvo and which model?

Yea the s40 has the battery under the hood so that's not it. I'm pretty sure your fuse box is a pcm however what other electrical problems have you had?

NY I just checked your fuse box is the BCm Europeans love doing that I don't know why. Those things fail all the time causing random electrical issues with everything from lights to horns window motors door locks and the radio. Basically your fuse box is also a computer module whatever you do make sure whoever installs it can program it cause it takes specific software to program. I'm pretty sure their vin specific which means a used one probably won't work.


This listing doesn't say anything about it having to be programed but this is what it looks like. But check with Volvo if its plug and play or program required

90% of the time it's the doohickey. Every once in a while a thingamabob will go bad, but not often. Regardless of the problem, DO NOT let them sell you a gadget to go along with it. They try to pitch it as a 'matched' part, which is bull. The only matched part is a thingamajig to go along with the thingamabob. Salesmen...
