Marrone interview tour MERGED

Quote:I asked for a link. I came back when I got one (actually just a reference but I tracked it down). Were you expecting me to comment about posts that didn't exist?

And NOW you provide a link. Well better late than never.

Ryan O breaks it up into first-half and 2nd half of the season, so I thought that was very relevant to the claim that the Jags stepped up the blitz significantly in the second half of the season. They didn't, which was what I thought I saw. The less than 5% difference between the two is what one would expect from just random fluctuations. And this also ignores the Jags blitzing most against a fast running QB, the last person you should do that against. With a running QB, contain is more important. Face it, a weak roster or not, the defensive play calling was a huge problem.

BTW, your quote that the Jags blitzed 0% on 3rd and 12 or more also agrees with what I have been saying. I'm amazed that posters seem to disagree with me yet keep posting links that support my point.

No one agrees with you. You saying that things support your position doesn't magically make it true. I'd suggest you get your eyes checked. They tried everything. The problem was always the roster. Deal with it.

I will. And I won't criticize you for your general opinions on the team either. It's one thing to criticize someone like TMD for hammering an opinion into the ground and then never admitting he was wrong, but coming from someone who always takes a wait and see approach with most jaguars moves, I find it interesting that you would take shots at those of us who value marrone in higher regard than Gus, especially at this point when Gus has proven his ineptitude, and the marrone thing hasn't even unfolded yet.

Quote:So the usual suspects who were opining his pending departure can get back to hoping he winds up the interim here next year after being so coveted this off season.

The stats in the links provided by Speedy and NYC agree with me. The roster was a problem, but it was not as bad as the results. We did not have the league's second worst defensive personnel. The Bears were 20th in defense with a worse roster.

Babich may have "tried everything" for a play or two, but he didn't stick with any change long enough to see results. I watched the Jags rush 4 on 3rd and 13 and Hoyer had all day to wait for a receiver to come open. That's a classic example of my criticism of Babich and Bradley. The link Speedy provided which claims that the Jags NEVER rushed more than four on 3rd and 12 or longer agrees.

Pardon me for thinking that if/when this team does eventually move on from Gus, that we really upgrade the HC position. Your dreams of promoting mediocrity are truly inspiring.

I agree with this. Whatever else you think of Marrone, he does not have a winning record as a head coach. His record is not much different from Mularkey. I'd rather the Jags hire a former NFL head coach with a winning record (Jon Gruden is still #1 on my list), or at least a winning college head coach (Harbaugh, Carroll, O'Brien, Kelly ... OK, 3 out of 4 isn't bad). The hot coordinator hire is rarely a hit and mostly a miss (see Browns, Cleveland).

I do think Marrone is significantly better than Bradley, enough so that I believe we would have won the division if Bradley was fired after starting 1-4.

9-7 is a winning record in a division better than ours. What's your expert opinion of mediocrity based on?

well first off, you're simply bashing my opinion based on your opinion. We have differing opinions on marrone. There are no statistical facts that are going to prove either of us right.

BUT instead of just sitting here bashing my opinion, I'd be delighted to hear who you would think is a likely option to replace gus that you approve of and isn't mediocre.

It's pointless to speculate right now. The job isn't available, and we have no idea what the options will be if/when it is. I just don't see Marrone as any sort of savior head coach. We'd be better off dragging Coughlin back in.

well I said I think he's underrated as a coach and that I dont think there will be better options regardless, but again, to each their own, if you had suggestions, I'm sure people would be critical of them as well.

Every single team looking for a head coach this off season were unanimous in their conclusions that there were multiple better options.

But then again, these are professionals doing the hiring that know a lot more about Marrone than you do.

very true and that could be the case. It's also possible that he could have turned those teams down....maybe he knows he could be next for the jaguars job and he would rather wait. At this point we don't really know.

another thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of coaches that get passed over, or fired and go on to have great careers...take a look at Coughlin.

again, I understand many others dont like marrone but I do and in my opinion, he would be better than mediocre. That's about all we have right now.

What are you talking about? Are you seriously comparing a two time superbowl winning coach to Marrone? Coughlin didn't get passed over to be rehired, Coughlin declined to be rehired. He would have been one of the first coaches to get another job if he didn't personally choose not to take an offer. No one wanted Marrone. You are seriously delusional about this guy.

All you look like is a guy who took an uninformed stance that is now desperately trying to defend that stance after the professionals showed they did not share your perspective at all.

Just accept the fact that you made a bunch of unfounded assumptions about the guy that turned out not to be shared by the people who actually know real information about him. It's pretty silly to keep defending your stance when everyone knows you don't have any real knowledge to defend your stance. Seriously, you are not doing anything to back your stance besides making things up. You want people to respect your opinion but you have shown your opinion to be based on nothing more than what you have fabricated.

You aren't providing an informed opinion. You are throwing out fiction and then getting offended because people recognize it as nothing more than a bunch of BS.

the only stance I took is that I think Doug marrone is a good coach. I really don't care who disagrees. The only way we will see what happens is if he gets another head coaching gig.

in terms of Coughlin, they forced him to resign but I was saying teams make mistakes. People clamored over chip Kelly, that was a disaster. The eagles fired Andy Reid...mistake. Just like teams make mistakes and pass players by in the draft. I never said marrone was the second coming of Coughlin, you created that idea yourself.

if you don't like marrone and don't think he's a good coach, that's fine, you can say so, but I'm not going to change my opinion just based on your opinion. That's ridiculous.

Quote:According to various reports, the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive line coach/assistant head coach for offense interviewed for five of the seven NFL head coaching vacancies over the past two weeks. Nobody is asking you to change your mind based on their opinion.

But, the opinion of 8 teams over the past 2 years is that he's not their first choice for a head coaching position.  That speaks volumes.

0-8 in interviews. That's not a good look.
